Melvins 1983, the alternate configuration of the Buzz Osborne-fronted band, have announced a new album, Thunderball, out April 18th. The lead single 'Victory of the Pyramids' can be streamed now.
It marks the third full-length album under the Melvins 1983 moniker, featuring Osborne alongside original Melvins drummer Mike Dillard. Electronic artists Void Manes and Ni Maîtres were also brought in to contribute to the new recordings, adding another sonic layer to the mix.

Pushing nearly 10 minutes in length, 'Victory of the Pyramids' is a minor epic — 'a lovely blend of beautiful noise and gut-busting grooves,' as Dillard put it — showcasing the full force of the 1983 lineup.
Dillard's propulsive drumming lays the bedrock for a winding arrangement that opens with an upbeat punk/power-pop section that Osborne eventually steers into the Melvins' typically sludgy domain. The contributions of Void Manes and Ni Maîtres can be heard during the latter half, as the song floats off into an atmospheric haze.
'Thunderball is the third Melvins 1983 record we've made together, and I wanted it to be bombastic — I think we achieved that,' said Osborne via a press release. 'I also wanted to do something with electronic artists Void Manes and Ni Maîtres for a long time. Both of them are exceptional talents. Their out-of-the-box use of electronics pushed Thunderball beyond my expectations.'
The album will arrive amidst a previously announced tour with Napalm Death featuring the regular Melvins' lineup of Osborne, bassist Steven McDonald, and drummers Dale Crover and Coady Willis. The Melvins will also be embarking on a short run of West Coast tour dates in March (get tickets here).
