KUALA LUMPUR, June 28 — Twenty-one houses, a temple and a food stall were destroyed in a fire that broke out in Bagan Pasir Laut, Hutan Melintang, early this morning. According to Utusan Malaysia, Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Assistant Operations Director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the department received a distress call at 4.52am. A team from the Hutan Melintang Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the scene, assisted by personnel from the Teluk Intan station and the Sungai Tiang Volunteer Fire Brigade. 'The fire spread quickly due to the close proximity of the houses and low water pressure from the hydrants,' he reportedly said. The blaze was brought under control by 7.30am. No casualties or injuries were reported. 'As of now, operations are ongoing to ensure there are no remaining embers that could reignite the fire,' he added.

Fire guts paint warehouse in Penang, 3 workers suffer burns
BUKIT MERTAJAM: Three Nepalese workers suffered burns in a fire at a warehouse storing paint and solvents along Jalan Permatang Tinggi here today. Penang Fire and Rescue Department operations division assistant director John Sagun Francis said the men, all in their 30s, were employees at the warehouse. He said the department was informed that the victims had sustained burns to their backs and left hands, and were taken to a private clinic for treatment before firefighters arrived. The fire involved two warehouses at Lot 1135, both operating without planning approval. "One of the warehouses stored paint and solvents, while the other contained scrap materials. Each covers an estimated 10,000 sq ft," he said in a statement. John said about 70 per cent of the paint warehouse was damaged, while the scrap warehouse sustained 15 per cent damage. A truck parked in the latter was also destroyed. Firefighters used a 'relay pumping' technique to battle the blaze, drawing water from fire engines and Volunteer Fire Brigade (PBS) vehicles. The case has been referred to the Fire Investigation Team for further action. Earlier, thick black smoke from the fire was visible from over 10km away, including in Bukit Mertajam.
