Barangay Ginebra beats Phoenix for back-to-back wins

(Photo: PBA Media) Barangay Ginebra claimed back-to-back wins after beating Phoenix, 119-112, on Friday in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Philsports Arena in Pasig. After claiming a 59-50 lead in the first half, Barangay Ginebra made a 33-point romp against Phoenix' 22 points to pull away in the third quarter and take an 89-72 advantage by the end of the said frame. The Gin Kings then cruised to their biggest lead, 108-86, with 4:45 left in the fourth period after Von Pessumal's triple. Ginebra, however, allowed 40 points for Phoenix against their 27 points in the final frame but still held control of the game despite the Fuel Masters' late rally. RJ Abarrientos had 25 points built on five treys, while Japeth Aguilar had 24 points to lead Ginebra who improved to 4-2. Scottie Thompson, meanwhile, had 17 points and 13 assists, while Stephen Holt had 18 points. Jason Perkins had 28 points while RJ Jazul and Ken Tuffin had 18 and 17 points for Phoenix who moved down to 2-5.
