Pella Middle School teacher earns Golden Apple

PELLA, Iowa — The Golden Apple often goes to teachers who have decades of experience in the classroom. Sometimes, we find younger teachers who are making a big difference, too. Just like his name, Hayden Vroom is always on the go and oftentimes loud. 'You can throw kids off by just yelling or standing in a weird spot. Like, if you stand on a desk, they're like 'Whoa what is this guy doing?' But you have their attention all of a sudden,' Vroom explains. 'Anyway, you can get their attention, and if crazy is how you get their attention, then it works.' It works for this math and science teacher who is only in his third year of his first teaching job at Pella Middle School. 'I'm far from the best teacher in the building actually, as far as teaching strategies and all that,' Vroom said. 'But when it comes to passion and energy, I feel like I bring that every single day.' Nominate your favorite teacher for the Golden Apple Award! Passion and energy that make his students want to learn. 'There's never really a dull moment. Like he can always just make someone laugh,' Lauren Van Kley, 8th grade student, said. 'And science has never really been my favorite subject, but he always just finds a way to make it fun.' And teachers want to teach. 'Because of him, everyone has more energy,' fellow teacher Cody DeKruyff said. 'There's more effort given to learning. There's more just overall positivity. And you can feel it when you step into his classroom and areas around it also.' Encouragement that's felt by everyone Mr. Vroom crosses paths with. 'He's just like a pure light in this school,' Sibley Carlstone, 8th grade student, said. 'He never fails to try to get to know all the students. And he's so energetic, and it really brightens everyone's day around here.' It's why several of his students and fellow teachers nominated Mr. Vroom for the Golden Apple. 'Wow… that was like the best kept secret ever,' Vroom said when accepting the award, 'I had no idea, that's kinda awesome. Wow, I'm honored. I'm actually speechless which is saying something because I'm never speechless.' A recognition for a teacher who's always called Pella home. Vroom graduated from Pella Christian and went to Central College to study education. A career path he credits back to the teachers he had in school. 'I think the stereotypical answer is I had some really good role models in my life,' Vroom said. 'Wow, he [one of his former teachers] made history fun. This guy was crazy in his own way. He talked about video games sometimes. Like he was just a person. I'm like man, he's real. He's real. And I'm like I want to be that. I want to be real to kids.' And so far, he's doing just that. 'He also really tries to connect with students,' Van Kley said. 'He's not really like what you think of as a teacher, he's also kind of like a friend and someone you can really trust.' More: Golden Apple Award winners Another 8th-grade student, Kaitlyn Weaver, described him as a 'very caring guy' who cares about everyone. 'They all come from something different, right? You never know what they're coming in with every single day and meeting them where they're at is kind of a big deal to me,' Vroom said. 'And I feel like every single day, you can bring joy. So I try to meet them with some joy every single day and seeing a smile is a win in my book.' Mr. Vroom is also known as 'Coach Vroom.' He is the middle school girls' track coach, as well as an assistant coach for the high school football team. Check out the extended interview with Mr. Vroom below: Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Why Vroom, Inc. (VRM) Is Surging in 2025

We recently published an article titled Why These 15 Vehicles & Parts Stocks Are Surging In 2025. In this article, we are going to take a look at where Vroom, Inc. (NASDAQ:VRM) stands against the other vehicles and parts stocks. Certain automotive companies have held up surprisingly well in the current environment, and that's especially true with companies that supply automotive parts. The high interest rate regime was supposed to crush automotive companies across the board, and early tariffs specifically targeted countries that produced the most automotive parts for the U.S. Even then. These stocks have done well since high interest rates have made it difficult for low-income consumers to buy new cars. Instead, they have opted for repairing their existing vehicles, which has been a tailwind for automotive parts companies for the past two years. The average age of vehicles was already at a record 12.6 years in 2024, so this tailwind isn't going away anytime soon. Customers who have higher incomes have kept on buying new vehicles. It is mostly because of them that consumer spending has held up across the board. Here are the biggest winners from this trend. Even during bear markets, there are pockets of the market that perform exceptionally well. For example, I identified 15 Financial Services Stocks that are up the Most in 2025 in another article. Methodology For this article, I screened the best-performing vehicles & parts stocks year-to-date. I will also mention the number of hedge fund investors in these stocks. Why are we interested in the stocks that hedge funds pile into? The reason is simple: our research has shown that we can outperform the market by imitating the top stock picks of the best hedge funds. Our quarterly newsletter's strategy selects 14 small-cap and large-cap stocks every quarter and has returned 373.4% since May 2014, beating its benchmark by 218 percentage points (see more details here). (NASDAQ:VRM) is now primarily an automotive finance and AI analytics company, operating through its subsidiaries United Auto Credit Corporation (UACC) and CarStory, after discontinuing its used car e-commerce operations in early 2024. Vroom, Inc. (NASDAQ:VRM)'s stock performance in 2025 is heavily influenced by its emergence from Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The restructuring process discharged approximately $290 million in debt and involved the cancellation of old equity, followed by the issuance of new common stock and warrants. This successful emergence significantly improved the company's financial position.

Vroom Delivery eyes smaller c-stores with latest back-office integration

This story was originally published on C-Store Dive. To receive daily news and insights, subscribe to our free daily C-Store Dive newsletter. Vroom Delivery has integrated its e-commerce platform with c-store back-office tech vendor Petrosoft, according to a recent announcement. The partnership aims to let c-store retailers of any size 'access enterprise-level integrations and automation,' according to the announcement. Petrosoft's website says retailers who use the integration — which combines Vroom with Petrosoft's CStoreOffice solution — can 'seamlessly automate inventory management and menus.' Long-term, Vroom plans to extend this integration to order processing, which would remove the need for store employees to enter orders at the register and allow retailers' digital commerce solutions to act as a virtual point of sale, according to the announcement. Less than a decade into its existence, Vroom — which has launched with 14 convenience retailers this year — continues to build out its e-commerce platform with new features and integrations with partners such as Uber, payment processor Finix and retail media agency Digits. Petrosoft and its CStoreOffice solution is the latest to join that group. Vroom CEO John Nelson said this partnership will help 'democratize sophisticated online ordering solutions' in the c-store industry. According to the announcement, the integration can also help c-store retailers automate their digital channels, including first-party ordering through their website and mobile app, third-party channels such as Uber Eats and DoorDash, and in-store ordering kiosks and kitchen management systems. 'We have spent 9 years building out industry leading enterprise digital commerce solutions to allow large retailers to fully automate their digital commerce solutions,' Nelson said. 'Through our partnership with Petrosoft, we can now continue to open the door to more retailers of any size.' MegaSaver, a chain of 42 convenience stores across Nebraska, Iowa, and Florida, was among the first retailers to tap into this integration that now manages both its first- and third-party channels. 'Our implementation with Vroom Delivery and Petrosoft was seamless, enabling us to streamline operations by automatically pushing menus across all delivery platforms, bringing our best products to customers more efficiently,' Andrew Matthiessen, delivery manager for MegaSaver, said in the announcement.
