Upstate personal care attendant charged with Medicaid fraud
SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) — A Pacolet woman was arrested Thursday for allegedly committing fraud that impacted two Medicaid recipients.
Attorney General Alan Wilson's Vulnerable Adults and Medicaid Provider Fraud unit (VAMPF) arrested 32-year-old Mikaila S. Mitchell for two counts of forgery of a value of less than $10,000 and one count of medical assistance provider fraud.
Officials said that between August 1, 2024 and January 25, 2025, while working as a personal care attendant, Mitchell forged signatures on timesheets, submitted falsified records and claimed that she provided care to two Medicaid beneficiares when she did not.
The case against Mitchell will be prosecuted by AG Wilson's office. If convicted, she could face as many as 13 years in prison, as well as fines.
Mitchell was booked into the Spartanburg County Detention Center on Thursday.
