Southside bury their demons with win

The Southside Demons bounced back from their loss last week to defeat the Fremantle Sharks 59-49 in round nine action of the WA Netball League. It was neck-and-neck in the first half, with the Sharks going into the main break up by one, but a fired-up Demons came out after half-time with renewed fire to dominate. The Demons chose to share their shooting responsibilities around, including captain Meg Gallager in her 100th WANL games. For the Sharks, it was once again all about Kasey Ridout, the goal shooter hitting 40 goals. The undefeated Western Roar remain the team to beat but Peel Lightning took it right up to the reigning premiers before going down 50-42. Lightning's Marene Peyper shot 10 goals in her 100th WANL game, while Roar vice captain Caitlyn Brown was a defensive wall alongside Chelsea Barlett. Comets 71 defeat Souwest Jets 42 Comets Jasmah Haywood (31) and Sloan Burton (26) had a night out in goals, joined by Madeleine Ash (14), as they put a gap between fifth place with a 71-42 thrashing of the Souwest Jets. Jets 21/U athlete Lily Knight continues to shine, shooting 17 goals at the higher level. West Coast Warriors remain in third place after easily accounting for bottom-of-the-table Rangers 62-33 Abbey Hicks (13), Emily Cramond (11) and Aisha Morcombe (nine) were all standouts for the young Ranger side, but it wasn't enough against the strength of the Warriors side. Jamaica Jauncey scored an incredible 51 goals and the Warriors remain just two points behind second-placed Demons with with a higher percentage.

Comets streak past Demons

The Southside Demons lost further ground on ladder leaders Western Roar after dropping their second game of the WANL season with a 50-60 lost to Comets in round eight action last week. The Demons shared shooting responsibility between five athletes, including captain Meg Gallager (23 goals), but it was Comet Jasmah Haywood's 43 goals that sealed the win. The Roar extended their lead at the top of the table to four points after a 40-goal thrashing of the Souwest Jets 67-27, led by Sophia Lamers (36) and Asha Parsons (27). Your local paper, whenever you want it. The Jets were once again led by goal shooter Rylee Hall (15), while 21/U athlete Lily Knight (nine) stepped into the Open League for a second week in a row. After coming within one goal of defeating Roar last week, the West Coast Warriors returned to the winner's circle and continue to eye off second place on the ladder with a 57-44 win over the Fremantle Sharks. Jamaica Jauncey led the charge with 46 goals, while Sophie Eastaugh (20) was the standout in goals for the Sharks. Sharks teammate Numi Tupaea celebrated her 100th WANL game, having been involved in the competition since 2010. Peel Lightning remain in touch with the top four after a 58-30 victory over the winless Rangers. Chelsea Cook (38) has continued to play a vital role for the team, supported by Rebecca Lill (eight), Kate Kimberley (seven) and Marene Peyper (five) in goals. Rangers 21/U shooting star Jade Dimer was elevated for the week and scored six.
