Start date for Cades Cove vehicle-free days announced after delay
CADES COVE, Tenn. (WATE) — The 2025 start date for vehicle-free days at Cades Cove has been announced after being delayed in May. Great Smoky Mountains National Park announced that the vehicle-free days will begin on Wednesday, June 18 and continue every Wednesday through September 24. The days give pedestrians and cyclists the chance to experience the 11-mile Cades Cove Loop Road without motor vehicles. Multi-year rehabilitation of Bullhead Trail to cause weekday closures through November Non-motorized bicycles, such as Class 3 E-bikes, scooters, skateboards and hoverboards, are not allowed. However, Class 1 and Class 2 E-bikes are permitted. Visitors are encouraged to come in the afternoon and evening hours for a better chance of securing a parking space. When there is no parking available, park staff will ask visitors to return later in the day. The park also urged visitors to pack wisely, as going around the loop often takes longer than expected to bike or hike. Cyclists are encouraged to always wear a helmet and adhere to the speed limit of 20 miles per hour. REAL ID requirements go into effect
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The REAL ID requirements went into effect on Wednesday, May 7. These requirements mean that those without compliant IDs may face more difficulties boarding flights, entering certain federal buildings, or entering nuclear power plants. If you do not have a domestic flight scheduled, you probably don't have to rush as you can still get a REAL ID after the deadline. Former patients of TN-based clinics now eligible for compensation People do not need a REAL ID to drive, vote or buy alcohol. KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon will bring over 7,000 runners to the city and to help viewers join the fun, 6 News will be livestreaming the races on Sunday morning. Coverage kicks off at 6 a.m. on Sunday, April 6, with the start of the marathon, half-marathon, and relay set for 7:30 a.m. You can watch a livestream within this story and on this webpage, which is dedicated to news about the marathon.
