Suspect in domestic situation shot after police chase in Ohio; 1 officer injured
A suspect was shot after shooting at law enforcement and then causing a chase in Marysville on Friday morning, according to our news partners, WBNS. [DOWNLOAD: Free WHIO-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] Officers were called to a domestic dispute on White Oak Court around 2:15 a.m. When they got to the scene, they found the suspect and interacted with him. During that interaction, the suspect reportedly pulled out a gun and fired shots at the officers from inside his vehicle, WBNS reported. The officers returned fire, but the suspect then drove off from the scene, hitting multiple vehicles, including a Marysville police cruiser, in the process. He then started going west on U.S. 33, leading to a chase with law enforcement. WBNS reported that the chase ended when the suspect's vehicle stopped in the median while on U.S. 33. The suspect got out of the vehicle with his firearm, and a Union County Sheriff's Office approached him. Shots were fired, and the suspect was hit multiple times. The suspect was taken to a Marysville hospital before being transported to a hospital in Columbus. His condition is unknown at this time. Police confirmed with WBNS that a Marysville officer was injured during the shooting incident at the original scene. That officer was taken to a hospital and was later released. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation was contacted to help with the investigation. Police have also confirmed that the suspect is expected to face several felony charges. Funeral services announced for sheriff's deputy shot, killed in line of duty
Memorial services have been announced for an Ohio deputy shot and killed on the job earlier this week. [DOWNLOAD: Free WHIO-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] A visitation will be held for Morrow County Deputy Daniel Sherrer on Tuesday, June 3, at Northmor High School in Galion from 1-7 p.m. The funeral is scheduled for Wednesday, June 4, at 11 a.m. at the school with private graveside services to follow, according to his online obituary. As News Center 7 previously reported, Sherrer was shot as he responded to a domestic dispute late Monday. A law enforcement escort led the procession of his body from the Montgomery County Coroner's office to a funeral home in Mount Gilead on Wednesday. They said the suspect, 53-year-old Brian Wilson, had a gun and shot it multiple times. Sherrer went to Wilson's house and found him sitting on the porch with a firearm in his hand. The 54-year-old allegedly told him not to come onto the porch. WBNS reported that Sherrer attempted to talk to Wilson in an effort to de-escalate the situation. Court documents state Sherrer could be seen on body camera video stepping back as Wilson threatened to kill him if he came around the corner. Sherrer continued to try and de-escalate the situation, but Wilson allegedly threatened him again. The affidavit obtained by WBNS then stated Wilson went up to Sherrer, who was standing on the stairs, and gunfire was exchanged. Sherrer was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died. Wilson was also shot and suffered serious injuries. He's since been charged with aggravated murder. The 31-year-old was a four-year veteran with the sheriff's office. This was his first law enforcement job. Sherrer is survived by his fiancée and parents, his obituary said. A procession to honor an Ohio deputy shot and killed on the job began in Dayton Wednesday morning. Amazon sued for selling rice with high levels of toxic metals
Amazon is facing a lawsuit claiming it knowingly sold rice without testing it for heavy metals. [DOWNLOAD: Free WHIO-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] Lab tests conducted by Healthy Babies Bright Futures found arsenic, cadmium, mercury and lead above FDA limits in 18 rice brands, including Whole Foods' brand 365, our news partners at WBNS reported. As a result of the findings, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration can deem these products as adulterated. Inmate who escaped minimum security facility in Ohio arrested; 3 remain on the run
One of the four inmates who escaped a minimum security facility in central Ohio last week has been arrested. [DOWNLOAD: Free WHIO-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] Online jail records in Franklin County show that Jeremy Bowen, 30, was arrested on Saturday. Our news partners in Columbus, WBNS, reported that Bowen was one of four inmates who escaped the Franklin County Community Based Correctional Facility in Columbus on Thursday by smashing through a window. All four have been charged with escape, and warrants are still out for Long, Burton, and Norton. WBNS reported that the facility serves as a residential prison diversion program for adult male offenders. Bowen, Burton, and Norton were all in the facility to complete the program for a parole violation. Long was completing the program for a felony theft charge. The facility is operated by its own appointed board and the Franklin County court system, and it is accredited by the American Correctional Association.
