2-year-old shot at Ohio apartment complex; Man arrested on tampering charges

A 2-year-old was shot at an apartment complex in Cincinnati over the weekend, and a 21-year-old man is now facing charges, according to our media partners, WCPO-9 TV. Cincinnati police have since arrested 21-year-old Carmelo Anderson on tampering with evidence charges in connection with this shooting. WCPO-9 reported that he hasn't been charged with shooting the child, however, police have not released details on how the child was injured. It is not clear if Anderson is related to the child. Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa Theete issued a statement on the shooting. In part, she said she's 'outraged, heartbroken and deeply disappointed to learn that yet another child — a 2-year-old — has endured unimaginable pain and trauma after sustaining a gunshot injury this weekend.' It is unclear if Anderson will face additional charges. This shooting remains under investigation by the Cincinnati Police Department. 'We were upset to learn of the bus accident this morning and grateful no Orion Academy students were riding at that time. TRENDING STORIES: Police say scene is safe after large response for 'barricaded subject' 'Just so sad;' 1 dead after shooting in Dayton neighborhood City to remove homeless encampment due to 'health and safety concerns' Kentucky State Police (KSP) said the Boone County Sheriff's Office and Florence Police Department responded to initial reports of a stolen semi-truck around 7 a.m. WCPO-9 reported that authorities stopped the truck, and 35-year-old Michael Simpson, of Cleves, got out of the driver's seat. According to KSP, Simpson reportedly did not follow the officer's commands, 'which resulted in a physical altercation.' It is not clear what happened during the 'altercation,' but a Florence police officer was injured, according to WCPO-9. KSP said Simpson got a gun and pointed it at his head while walking near the facility. Two Boone County Sheriff's deputies shot Simpson at this time. It is unclear where Simpson was shot, WCPO-9 reported. Simpson was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. State police confirmed to WCPO-9 that Simpson is not associated with Amazon. This shooting remains under investigation by the KSP's Critical Incident Response Team. A warrant has been issued for Scott's arrest. The Hamilton County Prosecutor's Office believes Scott drove by and shot Smith in the head while he was hanging out with friends. Smith was taken to UC Medical Center, where he died. A Hamilton County Sheriff's Office investigation found that the deadly shooting was connected to rap videos the Scott and Smith's friend groups made 'disrespecting' each other during a fight, WCPO-9 reported. Investigators determined Scott was the shooter after multiple interviews. 'These killings are senseless. Nothing, especially a perceived slight in a rap video, is worth killing over. Through good investigatory work authorities identified Scott as the shooter. We never give up working to seek justice for victims,' Hamilton County Prosecutor Connie Pillich said in a statement obtained by WCPO-9. Scott could be sentenced to life in prison for these charges. 2 dead after crash near regional airport

Two people are dead after a crash near the Butler County Regional Airport on Friday, according to our media partners, WCPO-9 TV. Fairfield police told WCPO-9 that Cortez was driving the car when the crash occurred. He was flown to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, but died on the way, according to WCPO-9. Police said a passenger in the car died on scene, but the Butler County Coroner has not released their identity. It is unclear how many people were in the car when the crash occurred.
