Woodland Fire quickly contains garage blaze sparked by lithium-ion battery
( — The Woodland Fire Department responded to reports of a garage fire at a residence on Wednesday afternoon. According to WFD, the incident happened at around 2:15 p.m. on West Woodland Avenue. When the first fire engine arrived on the scene and confirmed there was an active garage fire with visible flames, the crews started a fire attack. 'Thanks to the swift and effective work of all crews, the fire was held to the room of origin and brought under control quickly and safely, preventing further damage to the home,' said WFD. Fire investigators determined that the cause of the fire was a lithium-ion battery, said WFD. WFD has shared some safety tips for the public about lithium-ion batteries. Store batteries away from heat and direct sunlight. If a battery is damaged or overheating, stop using it immediately and dispose of it properly. Man dead, woman injured after house fire in east Wichita
WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – A man is dead and a woman is in critical condition after a house fire in east Wichita. The Wichita Fire Department was dispatched to the report of a house fire just before 10 a.m. in the 600 block of N. Belmont Ave. near Oliver and Central. Crews arrived within two minutes and immediately began to stretch a line. After firefighters entered the house, they located the deceased man and the woman. The woman was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. Fire crews were able to contain and maintain the fire to the living room. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Three injured in apartment fire near downtown Wichita
WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Fire crews are on the scene of a fire at an apartment complex near Central and Waco near downtown Wichita. It appears the fire was at Water's Edge Apartments at 400 W. Central. At 5:04 p.m., a call was made about a person possibly trapped in a burning apartment. The Wichita Fire Department responded quickly and posted on social media that the fire was under control, with three patients receiving medical care. Sedgwick County dispatchers say one person has potentially serious injuries, and the other two have minor injuries. WFD Battalion Chief Jose Ocadiz tells KSN that the two who received minor injuries were firefighters. They were evaluated on the scene and released by EMS.
