12-Year-Old Dies During Sleepover After Falling from 3rd-Story Window, and Her Parents Want to Know Why
Arya Lebeau, 12, died after she fell from a third-story window in Massachusetts on May 23 The girl's family is searching for answers after they allege she may have been pushed over a dispute about pizza "I just want closure, I want answers," the young girl's dad said A child has died after she fell from a third-story window, authorities said. Arya Lebeau, 12, was at a friend's house when she fell out of a third-floor window in an apartment complex in Southbridge, ABC affiliate WCVB, FOX affiliate WFXT and reported. 'We don't have any answers right now, but I'm hoping that soon we will get answers,' the young girl's mom, Charlene Cabrera, told WFXT. The Worcester County District Attorney's Office confirmed that authorities are continuing to investigate 'an unattended death' on the morning of Saturday, May 24. 'Initial reports suggest that a juvenile fell from a third-story window,' the district attorney's office said in a statement shared with PEOPLE. 'The Office of the Massachusetts Chief Medical Examiner has accepted the case and an autopsy is pending.' A statement posted by the Southbridge Police Department confirmed the details of the accident, sharing that the teen, who is not named in either statement, fell from the window Friday evening and was later pronounced dead at a medical center in Worcester. An investigation is ongoing. The police department and Office of the Massachusetts Chief Medical Examiner did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's requests for further comment. Recalling what happened that night, Cabrera told WCVB that she dropped her daughter off for the sleepover on Friday evening and was told a parent was present. Just two hours later, she got a call that her daughter had fallen out of the window, and there were allegedly no adults home. 'I was told it was a kick and she fell out the window,' the mom told the outlet. In a Facebook post, a woman who identified herself as Arya's grandmother said that an argument over pizza may have resulted in the young girl going through the window and hitting her head. Arya's dad, Jeremy Lebeau, said his daughter had stayed at the friend's house previously and only heard the children were home alone after the fatal incident, according to WCVB. "Part of her summer list was to have sleepovers, which is what she was doing,' Jeremy told the outlet. 'She was the greatest child I could have in my life. I miss her. I just want closure — no matter what, I just want closure, I want answers.' On a GoFundMe page that was organized by a friend to help with funeral costs, Cabrera thanked everyone for their support and mourned her little girl. (The organizer and Arya's family did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's requests for comment.) 'I cannot express the amount of grief I feel at the loss of my only baby,' she wrote. 'I know we will raise enough money to give my baby girl a peaceful rest.' Read the original article on People

Blue city's Democratic committee prints thousands of 'red cards' urging immigrants to know their rights
Democrats in one Massachusetts city have purchased thousands of red cards intended to remind immigrants of their constitutional rights if approached by ICE or related agencies. The Medford City Democratic Committee, based about six miles northwest of Boston, has already bought 4,000 cards, intended for use by citizens and noncitizens alike. The cards list their Fourth and Fifth Amendment rights: protecting them from warrantless searches, seizures, and having to speak to authorities without legal counsel. They are printed in English on one side, with translations in Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic and Haitian on the other, Medford City Councilor Matthew Leming notes on the committee's website. Republican Lawmakers Seek To Strip District Of Columbia Of Its Sanctuary City Policies Four-thousand more cards have also been approved for purchase, he said, writing, "Red cards are like helpful business cards that a holder can hand to an officer if they approach in public." Read On The Fox News App The cost of the initiative was $826, according to WFXT, a Boston FOX affiliate. Leming told Fox News Digital that taxpayer funds are not being used to subsidize the program. Rather, he said, the Democratic City Committee footed the bill. "We're just trying to find things we can do that are feasible to resist what's happening at the federal level," Leming told WFXT. "It's a way to protect our immigrant communities from the actions of the current administration." Trump Signs Executive Order Cracking Down On 'Sanctuary' Cities, Threatens Their Federal Funding "The cards list basic constitutional protections that apply to everybody, and everybody in the U.S. should be aware of their constitutional rights," he further noted when asked by Fox News Digital. The legal complexities of such an initiative are apparent — and whether constitutional rights apply to illegal immigrants can be a hot point of debate among legal scholars. Leming hopes to take the initiative even further. "What we're trying to do is find nonprofits who would be willing to sign up and give us a receipt for finance purposes so we can mail them out," he said. "A lot of our actions are restricted by campaign finance laws." The Medford "red card" initiative comes amid widespread pushback by blue-state officials regarding the Trump administration's immigration crackdown — including visits by members of Congress to El Salvador to protest the detention of suspected MS-13 gang member Kilmar Abrego Garcia, and recent court rulings attempting to restrict Border Patrol agents' ability to detain suspected illegal article source: Blue city's Democratic committee prints thousands of 'red cards' urging immigrants to know their rights

When troopers approached him, state police said Gudorf pulled out a gun and 'abruptly shot himself.' Troopers rendered aid to Gudorf before he was rushed to the hospital. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. 'Pending official identification by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, state police believe the identity of the individual to be Jeremy Gudorf,' a state police spokesperson told WFXT. News Center 7 previously reported that Gudorf was arrested at Boston's Logan International Airport on Feb. 20, moments before taking off on a flight to Paris. Massachusetts State Police troopers learned he was wanted on charges related to the sexual exploitation of a minor for services in Huntersville, North Carolina just before 9 p.m. when U.S. Customs and Border Protection were reviewing the manifest of the Boston-to-Paris flight. Gudorf was arraigned on Feb. 21 in the East Boston District Court on a fugitive-from-justice charge. In a statement provided to WFXT, a JetBlue spokesperson said that Gudorf has been placed on 'indefinite leave.' 'We are aware of and closely reviewing the arrest of one of our pilots upon reporting for work at Boston's Logan Airport Thursday evening due to an outstanding warrant,' the spokesperson said. 'The pilot has been placed on indefinite leave as law enforcement proceeds with the matter.' The Huntersville Police Department confirmed to WFXT that it launched an investigation into Gudorf in October 2024 after receiving a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. During the investigation, the police department said detectives obtained a search warrant for Google, leading to the identification of the source of the reported sexual exploitation images. 'At the time the crime was committed, records indicate he resided in Huntersville, NC. However, during the investigation, and before he was identified as a suspect, he relocated out of state,' the police department said in a statement. Gudorf, who was allowed to hide his face in court, was ordered held on $10,000 bail under the condition he immediately report to North Carolina within a week of his court appearance, WFXT reported. Friday's incident remains under investigation. [SIGN UP: WHIO-TV Daily Headlines Newsletter]
