Self-proclaimed Democratic 'super mayor' ordered to court as scandal-plagued tenure unravels
The self-described Chicago suburb "super mayor" is facing mounting legal woes after being ousted in a landslide election following a scandal-plagued time in office. Former Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard, a Democrat, has been ordered to appear for a contempt hearing after she did not turn over public records from her time in office, according to WGN 9. The Edgar County Watchdogs Inc. sued the Village of Dolton and the former mayor for failing to produce financial records after the administration allegedly disregarded Freedom of Information Act requests earlier this year. 'Super Mayor' Tiffany Henyard Skips Dolton Meetings As Controversial Tenure Nears Quiet End "The former mayor is about to find out if losing an election is enough to escape contempt of court," Edward "Coach" Weinhaus, attorney for Edgar County Watchdogs, said in a statement to Fox News Digital. Lightfoot reportedly discovered the village's general fund fell from its initial $5.6 million balance to a $3.6 million deficit, with the local government's credit card charges adding up to over $779,000 in 2023. This is apparently Pope Leo's favorite Chicago pizza joint
The city of Chicago will lose its last Aurelio's Pizza location when the 'za-slinging outpost on the south end of Grant Park shutters on Saturday, May 31. But the beloved pizzeria will live on through the rest of its Illinois-based locations, much to the relief of a surprising fan: Pope Leo XIV. Yes, the newly minted pontiff—formerly known as Cardinal Robert Prevost, a 69-year-old Chicago native—made history as the first-ever American pope during last week's papal conclave, a surprising election that had folks around Chicagoland cheering (and others, like Chicago-based chain Portillo's, making Pope-themed sandwiches to celebrate). But when it comes to celebrating some good ol' pizza, Pope Leo reportedly has a favorite pie among Chicago's saucy bunch and, yes, it's Aurelio's Pizza. As reported by WGN9, during his pre-pope days, then-Cardinal Prevost paid a visit to the pizzeria's Homewood location this past August. 'I didn't know the day he came because he didn't announce, 'Hey I'm the cardinal,'' owner Joe Aurelio quipped to the outlet. However, months later when Prevost officially became Pope Leo XIV, "all the employees went crazy," Aurelio added. "They started texting and calling me, 'Can you believe it? He was just here a few months ago.'" His Holiness is reportedly partial to the restaurant's thin-crust pepperoni pizza, so much so that Aurelio's has affectionately nicknamed the pontiff-approved pie the "Pope-eroni". The restaurant also designated the table where he sat during his visit as "The Official Pope's Table".

Pope Leo XIV's neighbors predicted he would become first American pontiff when he was in kindergarten
Pope Leo XIV's childhood neighbors in suburban Chicago had predicted when he was just a small boy that he would become the first American pontiff, his brother said. 'The interesting thing is way back when he was in kindergarten or first grade, there was a parent, a mom, across the street — one across the street that way and another down the street,' the newly-elected pope's older brother, John Prevost, told WGN9 on Thursday. 'Both of them said he would be the first American Pope — at that age.' Advertisement Pope Leo XIV speaks during a mass with cardinals in the Sistine Chapel in The Vatican on May 9, 2025. VATICAN MEDIA/AFP via Getty Images Prevost divulged the wild prediction soon after his sibling was elected as the Catholic Church's 267th pontiff — making the Chicago-born missionary the first ever US pope. 'She sensed that at 6 years old,' he said in a separate interview with the Associated Press. Advertisement 'How she did that, who knows. It took this long, but here he is, first American pope.' Follow the latest on the election of Pope Leo XIV: Prevost, for his part, said he always knew his brother — who was then Robert Prevost — was going to be a priest, noting that he left for seminary school after graduating eighth grade. Now that he is the church's leader, Prevost said he expects his sibling to be a 'second Pope Francis.' Advertisement 'He's not going to be real far left and he's not going to be real far right,' he said. 'Kind of right down the middle.' 'It's quite an honor; it's quite a once in a lifetime,' he added of his brother's election. Advertisement 'But I think it's quite a responsibility and I think it's going to lead to bigger and better things, but I think people are going to watch him very closely to see what he's doing.' Today Is the Worst: Another Car Crashes Into Billy Corgan's Tea Shop
The post Today Is the Worst: Another Car Crashes Into Billy Corgan's Tea Shop appeared first on Consequence. Either Billy Corgan's tea shop is in a bad location traffic-wise, or people aren't digging the Smashing Pumpkins frontman's scones. On Tuesday (April 29th), a car crashed into Madame Zuzu's in Highland Park, Illinois, for the second time in six months. Thankfully, unlike the incident in October, no one was hurt this time around, and the damage to storefront wasn't nearly as severe. According to WGN9, the alt-rock musician's wife, Chloe Mendel Corgan, reported that it was 'an honest accident' and that there was 'some exterior damage.' Get Billy Corgan Tickets Here A statement on the shop's official Instagram page read, 'Earlier today, there was an accident outside of Madame Zuzu's involving a vehicle that struck the front of the café. Thankfully, no one was injured. Thank you to everyone who checked in and offered support.' By the time WGN9's helicopter was over the scene, the car had been moved from the area, with only some damage to the shop's brick facade visible. Billy himself posted a photo of the damage on X/Twitter, with the caption, 'Can you believe someone drove into Madame Zuzu's again?' The rocker can be seen taking the photo in the window's reflection. The result was far worse in October, when a red Mini Cooper crashed into Madame Zuzu's, injuring Billy's mother-in-law, with his son narrowly avoiding harm. The shop's windows were completely blown out due to that incident. The Pumpkins singer-guitarist originally opened the tea shop in Chicago's Ravinia neighborhood in 2012. After shutting it down in 2018, Billy and Chloe re-opened the store at its current Highland Park location in September 2020. In addition to selling tea, Madame Zuzu's offers a largely vegan menu of food items. On the music front, Corgan is as busy as ever. He recently announced a solo tour celebrating the Smashing Pumpkins albums Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (30th anniversary) and Machina/The Machines of God, plus its sequel Machina II/The Friends & Enemies of Modern Music (both 25 anniversary). That outing kicks off June 7th in Baltimore and runs through June 29th in Minneapolis, with tickets available here. Additionally, Corgan is teaming up with the Lyric Opera of Chicago for a series of concerts reimagining Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness in November. Watch WGN9's report on the latest car crash at Madame Zuzu's, and see Billy Corgan's tweet of the damage, below.
