Warren JFK's Ryan to join national championship basketball program
WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – Warren JFK senior Nick Ryan will continue his academic and athletic career at Trine University. The Eagles basketball standout signed his letter of intent on Thursday.
'Once I went down to Trine, I was like, 'Oh my goodness, this place is unbelievable,'' Ryan said. 'From the facilities to the campus, everything about it was just unbelievable.'
Ryan led Kennedy in points (26.5), rebounds (11.5), assists (2.5) and steals (2.7) last season, and was twice named to our WKBN Starting 5.
The reigning Trumbull County Player of the Year helped lead the Eagles to 72 career wins and two District titles.
He will graduate as the school's all-time leading scorer and rebounder with 1,928 career points and 890 rebounds.
'It was a very big goal of mine to be at the top of the list once I left JFK, so being able to do that was a big accomplishment,' Ryan said. 'I just want to leave a legacy behind. Like, not only was I a good basketball player but I was a good person as well.'
Trine University is an NCAA Division III basketball program that competes in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association. The Thunder were 21-5 overall last season and won the NCAA National Championship in 2024.
