Frieze Awards Victor 'Marka27' Quiñonez the 2025 Los Angeles Impact Prize
The Frieze 2025 Los Angeles Impact Prize is part of the fair's diversity and inclusion initiative, and is awarded in collaboration with WME Impact and The Center for Art and Advocacy. Open to any alumni or current fellows of The Center's Right of Return fellowship, the award recognizes the work of a formerly incarcerated artist whose work provokes dialogue around contemporary social issues of year, that honor goes to acclaimed street artist Victor Quiñonez, a.k.a. 'Marka27', whose mixed media work puts marginalized communities at the center of their own stories. Quiñonez is no stranger to harnessing the power of art for activism, and runs the award-winning 'Street Theory Gallery' in Brooklyn with his wife, Liza.
On top of the $25,000 award, Quiñonez will debut his newest series, I.C.E. SCREAM, as a solo project presentation at the 2025 Los Angeles Frieze art fair. This body of work blends mediums to confront the complexities of the immigrant experience. Quiñonez utilizes paintings and sculptural installations to convey the unflinching resolve possessed by immigrants from all walks of life. His work highlights the beauty and strength of a community so vital to the tapestry of Los Angeles, and comes at an urgently necessary time.
