Some clearing and preparation work has already started, but other areas remain untouched because of ongoing land acquisition processes," he told reporters after launching the Outstanding SPM Student Incentive Award Ceremony at Putatan on Friday (May 9). The WP35 project recently became the focus of a viral post alleging internal problems within the contractor, including a breakdown in partnership and questions over its ability to complete the work. Nanta dismisses allegations over Sabah Pan Borneo Highway scandal

SIBU: Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi has denied allegations of his involvement in a corruption scandal related to the Pan Borneo Highway Sabah project (WP35), which recently went viral on a Telegram channel. In a statement on Facebook today, he described the claims as slanderous, baseless and malicious in intent against him as a member of the government administration. 'The message contains direct accusations against me as the Malaysian Minister of Works, with defamatory, unfounded and malicious claims. I categorically deny all such allegations,' he said. He added that the baseless accusations not only affect his reputation but also tarnish the image of the Ministry of Works and the government as a whole. More worryingly, he said, the message that first appeared on Telegram has since spread to other social media platforms, potentially causing misunderstandings and negative public perception. Following this, a police report was lodged yesterday by his senior private secretary at the Tun H.S. Lee police station in Kuala Lumpur to deny the allegations and request an immediate investigation. 'I will fully cooperate in any form necessary to assist the investigation and leave it entirely to the authorities to take appropriate action against those responsible for spreading this slander,' he stressed. He also emphasised that the act of spreading slander should not be used as a political weapon or a means to bring someone down for personal gain.

In a Facebook post today, Nanta said the message is believed to have been spread initially through a Telegram channel. 'In this regard, I, through my senior private secretary, filed a police report at the Tun HS Lee Police Station yesterday (May 7) to strongly deny these allegations and request the authorities to investigate this matter immediately,' said Nanta. The Kapit MP assured the relevant authorities that he will fully cooperate in any form to assist with the investigation and leave it entirely to them to take appropriate action against any party responsible for spreading the message. 'I would like to emphasise that slander cannot be a tool to tarnish the reputation of any individual, especially for political gain or personal agenda,' he said. 'The message contains direct accusations against me as the Minister of Works of Malaysia, with allegations that are defamatory, baseless, and malicious. I strongly deny all such allegations.' He stressed that as a politician and member of the government administration who always upholds the trust and is committed to safeguarding the interests of the people and the country, the allegations not only tarnish his image and integrity, but also the reputation of the Ministry of Works and the Malaysian government. 'More worryingly, the message was not only spread on Telegram, but was also shared on various social media platforms, thus creating negative perceptions and prejudice among the community,' he added. alexander nanta linggi defamation lead Sabah Pan Borneo Highway

Nanta denies Pan Borneo Highway corruption claims

PETALING JAYA: Works Minister Datuk Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi denies corruption claims linking him to the Pan Borneo Highway Sabah (WP35) project. Nanta said the allegations surfaced on a Telegram channel and accused him of corruption as the Works Minister. He described the claims as a smear campaign aimed at damaging his and the government's reputation. "I strongly deny all these allegations. These claims are nothing more than an attempt to tarnish my image and undermine my role as a minister," he said in a statement on Thursday (May 8). Nanta said that the false claims spread beyond Telegram to other social media, creating a "negative perception and prejudice" among the public. "I want to stress that slander should never be used as a tool to destroy anyone's reputation, especially for political or personal gain," he added. A police report was lodged at the Tun H.S. Lee police station on Wednesday through his senior private secretary, calling for a full investigation and action against those responsible. He pledged full cooperation with authorities in the investigation. Nanta has been the Works Minister since 3 December 2022, overseeing major infrastructure projects, including the Pan Borneo Highway, a toll-free network spanning 1,800km across Sabah and Sarawak, costing RM27bil.
