Divers Recover Body of 12-Year-Old Boy Who Went Missing While Swimming at a Florida Beach

A 12-year-old boy went missing while swimming at Fort Lauderdale Beach in Florida during a basketball team bonding trip. A few hours later, he was found dead in the water. Officials began scouring the ocean in search of the child — who has not yet been publicly identified by authorities — in the early evening of Friday, April 18, according to Miami outlet NBC 6 and CBS News. The boy had been visiting Fort Lauderdale with the Team Jordan Basketball Club, his basketball team from Lake Worth, Fla., according to another Miami outlet, WPLG Local 10. Several parents had accompanied the team for the bonding trip, per NBC 6. One parent told WPLG Local 10 that the boy was swimming in a group in the ocean when the water became 'rough." The area was under a high rip current risk, in effect through Sunday, April 20 — leading lifeguards on the scene to intervene. The lifeguards brought three of the swimmers safely ashore but could not locate the missing 12-year-old, the outlet reported. The FLFR later ended its search, but the U.S. Coast Guard and FLPD continued looking for the young boy, according to WPLG Local 10. The police dive team took over the underwater search at around 7 p.m., per CBS News. After about another hour of searching, the dive team found the boy's body just after 8 p.m., NBC 6 and CBS News reported. Police determined that the cause of death was accidental drowning, according to the outlets. She Thought He Was a Licensed Surgeon. Then Her Cosmetic Surgery Left Her Disfigured, Authorities Say

A Miami man was arrested following allegations that he posed as a doctor and performing a surgery that left a woman permanently disfigured — just weeks after another doctor from the same facility was apprehended on similar charges. Manuel Jose Lazzaro, 58, was arrested last week on a charge of unlicensed health care causing serious bodily injury, NBC 6 South Florida reported, citing authorities. According to an arrest report obtained by the outlet, the woman told investigators that she found Lazzaro on social media and came to Miami from Orlando in September of this year. He is not currently in Florida's medical license database. According to WPLG Local 10, Lazzaro appeared in court on April 11. Lazzaro allegedly performed the surgery at New World Medical & Mystic Cosmetic, according to the arrest report obtained by the outlet. His arrest comes just weeks after authorities arrested another Miami man who allegedly was practicing without a medical license at the very same facility. On arrest reports, the previously arrested man, Wilson Muñoz Suarez, and Lazzaro both had their occupations listed as 'surgical assistant,' according to arrest reports obtained by WPLG Local 10 and NBC 6 South Florida. In court, prosecutors said that the woman's breasts were infected but Lazzaro ignored her and didn't tell her to see a legitimate doctor, according to Telemundo 51. Prosecutors said the Orlando woman 'suffered the loss of her entire nipple,' according to the judge set Lazzaro's bail at $10,000 and prohibited him from performing any more surgeries, per the outlet. Lazzaro's Instagram page is still active, though private, and has over 2,300 followers. 'Dr. Lazzaro Venezuelan certified Plastic Surgeon in aesthetics, face, breast & body sculpture,' his biography reads. Read the original article on People

US man who shot Israeli visitors thought they were Palestinians, police say

A man charged with attempted murder over the shooting of two Israeli visitors in Florida, the United States, believed the victims were Palestinians, police have said. Mordechai Brafman, 27, was on Sunday charged with two counts of attempted murder and booked after the shooting at Miami Beach the previous night, according to the website of Miami-Dade County Corrections. In an arrest report, police alleged that Brafman had 'spontaneously stated that while he was driving his truck, he saw two Palestinians and shot and killed both'. Both victims, identified in local media as a Jewish father and son visiting Miami from Israel, survived. One of the men suffered an injury to his shoulder, and the other was wounded in his forearm, according to local news reports. In an interview with WPLG Local 10, one of the victims, identified as Ari Revay, said the shooter had opened fire at him and his father from a passing truck. ''Boom, boom, boom' and he randomly started shooting,' Revay was quoted as saying in an interview that was reportedly translated from Hebrew by his cousin. 'He put the window down, driver's seat and just blasted,' Revay was quoted as saying. The shooting comes amid warnings by advocacy groups that incidents of anti-Muslim and anti-Semitic hate have surged since the start of the war in Gaza on October 7, 2023. 'This is just the latest example of the hate targeting the Palestinian-American community in this country and Palestinians in their homeland,' Nihad Awad, the national executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said in a statement on Monday. 'Policymakers in our nation should stop fomenting the anti-Palestinian hate that led to the genocide in Gaza and to hate crimes in America.'
