Thousands without power as storms move through Memphis area
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Thousands in Memphis could be waking up without power on Tuesday morning as storms are making their way across the Mid-South. Over 5,000 Memphis Light, Gas, and Water customers are without power, and the number is slowly increasing as a round of weather passes through the area. Strong storms are expected today after lunch, bringing with them the possibility of isolated tornadoes. ‘Enhanced risk' for severe weather across Mid-South Tuesday
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — As clean-up continues across Hernando and DeSoto County, Mississippi, the Mid-South is getting ready for another round of potentially severe weather. Severe Storms Prediction Center has West Tennessee and North Mississippi in an 'Enhanced Risk' for severe weather, for Tuesday afternoon. High winds, storms with hail, and a few tornadoes should be expected as our latest cold front roars across the region. Monday's weather is breezy and warm with highs nearing 90, and a few showers overnight. Tuesday afternoon, likely just after lunch, strong storms are forecast to develop. This is part of a cold front that will return cooler weather to the region for the rest of the week. MS city says warning sirens failed to go off due to possible weather interference
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The city of Senatobia, Mississippi said on Thursday that early warning sirens in the city did not function overnight due to 'possible weather-related interference.' Severe storms tracked across the Mid-South overnight and into Thursday Morning, but now, residents in Senatobia, Miss. are expressing their concerns after they say the warning sirens never sounded. 4 weather-related fatalities confirmed after severe storms in West TN In a press release, the city says they tried to activate the sirens, which did not function due to what they believe could have been weather-related interference. The city of Senatobia is currently working to repair the sirens. 'The City of Senatobia understands the critical importance of early warning systems in ensuring public safety. We want to reassure residents that city personnel are actively working to identify the cause of the disruption and implement the necessary repairs as quickly as possible,' said the city. They are encouraging citizens to stay informed through multiple sources of emergency alerts like local media, the National Weather Service, and by signing up for 'Code Red' alerts, which deliver important messages to your phone through text.
