Itanagar: West Siang District Olympic Association (WSDOA) on Monday started developing the ground of the Aalo Indoor Stadium.
State govt sanctioned the stadium under the 2014-15 SPA at an estimated cost of Rs 35.28 crores, and awarded the contract to M/s TK Engineering Consortium Limited.
The work started in June 2018 with a completion deadline of 36 months.
Regrettably, the project has missed several deadlines and has turned into a reflection of govt's neglect.
"From today, we are taking over the ground and reconstructing it to hold football and volleyball tournaments," said WSDOA president Nyatum Bagra.
H
e said the delay in completing the stadium has impacted sports enthusiasts among the youth.
Since Nov 2024, several organisations have been urging the construction firm to vacate the premises. People of Aalo have been demanding immediate completion of the construction. However, these demands have fallen on deaf ears.
Bagra reasoned that they were left with no option but to take up the work due to lack of response from the govt, the district administration and the sports department.
