Neighbor pins down chainsaw-wielding man in clown mask, footage shows
COHOES, NY (WTEN) – A New York man helped pin down another man in a clown mask who was carrying an electric chainsaw down a street in the city of Cohoes on Thursday. 'I was walking my mom out to the car,' said local resident Natalie Gwinn. 'She was going to pick up my daughter from school, and I saw a dude in a blue sports jersey in a clown mask walking down the street. It was a little weird, but I kind of rolled my eyes and ignored it.' A New York man helped pin down another man in a clown mask who was carrying an electric chainsaw down a street in the city of Cohoes on Thursday. (WTEN) In a security video shared to Nexstar's WTEN, the man seen is coming up Newark Street and then turning right on Lancaster Street. Police say a neighbor saw him looking into cars and that's when things quickly changed. 'I heard a man screaming 'Call the cops!' repeatedly,' stated Gwinn. A few moments later, the video captures a neighbor of Gwinn's holding the suspect down until police could show up. 'It felt like a few seconds later there were cops coming down Lancaster,' Gwinn explained. Goodbye, Skype: Once-popular video calling service shuts down for good Police said they initially responded to reports of a 'fight between two males' at around 2:40 p.m., Cohoes Chief of Police Todd Waldin said. Once at the scene, police were seen surrounding the men, ultimately taking one into custody. Waldin said Thursday's incident was something he had never seen before. 'Officers arrived and when they separated the two they were able to determine that there was an individual who was wearing a clown mask and had possession of an electric chainsaw.' Police identified the man in the clown mask as Craig W. Wolcott of Albany. He was arrested and taken to the Albany County Jail where he was booked on three felonies: 'Two different counts for possession of a weapon — one being the chainsaw, another one being a metal knuckle knife that he had on his person. And then the third one being the fact that he menaced someone with that chainsaw, which is a dangerous instrument or deadly weapon,' explained the chief. The unusual arrest rattled the nerves of some neighbors. 'It's usually pretty quiet around here. It's usually just kids in the streets playing,' said Gwinn. Wolcott was still in custody as of Monday evening. It was unclear when he will be appearing in court to face charges. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. WATCH: Manhole explodes, narrowly missing grandmother and her 2 grandkids
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (WTEN) – A family had a close call with a manhole explosion in Poughkeepsie, New York, on Saturday, according to the city's fire department. At about 1:34 p.m., the City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department responded to a report of a manhole explosion on Academy Street with people possibly injured. At least two other manholes also exploded down the block and on the corner of Academy Street and Church Street, the department said. In a video provided by the Poughkeepsie Fire Department, three pedestrians — a grandmother with her two young grandchildren, who had just left an Easter egg hunt — appear to be walking down the sidewalk when a manhole explodes just feet behind them, sending the manhole cover, concrete and other debris in the air. Despite the narrow miss, no injuries were reported in any of the manhole explosions, according to the fire department. During the investigation, officials reportedly found high levels of carbon monoxide in multiple buildings. The occupants of all the buildings on the block were evacuated until the gas levels were mitigated, the fire department said. All units were clear by 3:48 p.m., according to authorities. The scene was turned over to the energy company, Central Hudson, and Academy Street remained closed for a number of hours. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Fatal small plane crash in upstate New York under investigation
COPAKE, N.Y. (WTEN) — An investigation is currently underway after a twin-engine plane carrying six people crashed in upstate New York early Saturday afternoon. The Mitsubishi MU-2B-40 airplane crashed in the middle of an open field in Copake, authorities reported. According to the FAA, six people were on board and the plane was heading to the Columbia County Airport in Hudson. All six people are presumed dead, according to an official familiar with the crash, who could not discuss details of the investigation publicly and spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity. The Columbia County Sheriff's Office declined to comment on the number of fatalities during a press conference Saturday and did not name those on the plane. Several agencies responded to the scene, including the FAA, New York State Police, and the coroner. The National Transportation Safety Board is leading the investigation. According to Columbia County Undersheriff Jacqueline Salvatore, the crash site was muddy due to weather, making it difficult for emergency crews to access the scene. Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the crash, has video of it, or can provide any other information to call the Columbia County Sheriff's Office at (518) 828-3344. Additional information is expected Sunday afternoon.
