ISU's Ryan Pedon gets contract extended
NORMAL, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — Illinois State likes the direction of the men's basketball program. So Ryan Pedon is being rewarded. Pedon has signed a contract extension through the 2029-30 season, ISU announced Thursday. In three seasons, Pedon's team have gone from 11 wins to 15 to 22. The 22 wins from the 2024-25 season was the program's most since the 2016-17 season, and the program's first winning season since 2018-19. 'I am grateful for this opportunity to continue leading the Redbird Men's Basketball program into the future,' said Pedon in a statement. 'I would like to thank Dr. Jeri Beggs, President Tarhule, and our Board of Trustees for their support and confidence in what we are building together.' Last season the Redbirds posted a 22-14 overall record, a seven-win improvement from the previous season and won a postseason tournament championship, the College Basketball Invitational. The team's end-of-season NET ranking was 121, the highest in program history since the NET rankings were introduced in 2018-19. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Christian Davis hoping NIT can prolong senior season, Bradley career
PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — Christian Davis likes to trust his gut. He did that three years ago when he was considering coming to Bradley. 'I had a gut feeling whether to come here or go somewhere else,' Davis said. 'I trust my gut. I was definitely right.' As he approaches the final leg of his Bradley basketball career, Davis looks back and sees growth. The first Bradley player ever from Colorado says he's a more confident, more complete player now then he's ever been. 'A lot of it is above the shoulder, confidence-wise and trying to buy into the development process the coaches bring,' the Denver native said. 'Bradley does a great job with player development, I think I'm a very good example of that.' After 11 starts last season, Davis has been in the starting lineup all 34 games this year, averaging 9.6 points and 5.2 rebounds a game. He is also second on the team with 25 blocks, seven behind leader Darius Hannah. 'Being more dynamic and adding something to my game every year helped me,' Davis said. 'It's something I'm proud of.' The 6-7, ,205-pound wing doesn't get the attention Hannah and Duke Deen receive but he's fine with that. So is coach Brian Wardle, who plays Davis about 31 minutes a game. 'Christian makes a ton of plays. That's why he plays so much,' said Wardle. 'He's not going to play that much in our program without making winning plays. He makes winning plays all the time.' Davis hopes there's winning plays and winning ways still ahead in the National Invitation Tournament. Bradley hosts North Alabama in the NIT opener on Wednesday night. He's not ready to think about the end of his Bradley career while he's having so much fun enjoying his time with the Braves. 'I'm pushing off all kinds of reflection. It's in the back of my mind. If any motivation is needed, and it's not, to play harder,' Davis said. 'As far as reflection goes, we'll talk about that when the season is over.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
