Oman's second largest dam opens in Salalah
Salalah – Wadi Adawnib Dam – Oman's second largest dam – was inaugurated by Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in Salalah on Monday. With capacity of 83mn m3, the RO24mn structure is of 389m length and 70m height. Second largest dam in Oman opens in Salalah
Salalah: The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources celebrated the opening of Wadi Adawnib Dam in the Wilayat of Salalah, Governorate of Dhofar on Monday. Having a storage capacity of 83 million cubic metres, the dam figures as the second largest water storage facility of its kind in the Sultanate of Oman. The project, which cost about OMR24 million, also constitutes a step forward in the Ministry's efforts to enhance protection against floods. The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of Sheikh Salim bin Mustahail Al Ma'ashani, Adviser at the Diwan of Royal Court, and attended by local dignitaries, government officials and representatives of private sector establishments. The dam boasts an integrated monitoring system that includes wells to check groundwater levels and leaks, sensors to measure water levels in the lake and devices to measure pressure, slope and deviation, in addition to seismic sensors and surveillance cameras.
