Why Wahlburgers closed this Mass. location after 10 years

A national burger chain backed by a famous family shuttered one of its Massachusetts restaurants because it was unable to renegotiate a new lease. Wahlburgers closed its location at MarketStreet Lynnfield on Sunday, April 27, the restaurant wrote in a Facebook post. 'The lease had expired and we were unable to negotiate an equitable extension,' a Wahlburgers spokesperson wrote in a statement sent to MassLive Wednesday. 'We are incredibly grateful to our loyal guests, dedicated team members, and the local community for their support over the years,' the statement read. 'This location has meant a great deal to us, and we are proud of the memories and meals we've shared here.' Wahlburgers encouraged customers to visit Wahlburgers' other locations in the Boston area. Those who purchased gift cards for the Lynnfield restaurant can use them at another Wahlburgers or online. 'We can't thank you enough for your support,' the Facebook post read. 'We look forward to seeing you at our other locations and sharing many more memorable experiences soon.' Wahlburgers is a fast-casual burger chain spearheaded by the Wahlberg family, which consists of chef Paul Wahlberg, singer/actor Donnie Wahlberg and actor Mark Wahlberg. The family, which has roots in Dorchester, was the focus of the reality TV show 'Wahlburgers' for several years. The family opened the first Wahlburgers in Hingham in 2011, with the Lynnfield location opening in 2015, according to an article from Eater Boston at the time. Wahlburgers has since grown to include locations in 15 states as well as Canada, Australia and New Zealand, according to Wahlburgers' website. Wahlburgers now has six locations in Massachusetts: Springfield, Plainville, Hingham and three in Boston. The address for the since-closed Wahlburgers was 930 Market St., Lynnfield.
