Bob Marey's Blockbuster Blasts Back Onto Several Charts

Bob Marley's Legend reenters a pair of Billboard charts this week, including the Top Album Sales and ... More Vinyl Albums lists, driven by a 17% sales jump. (Photo by Charlie Steiner - Hwy) Legend, the compilation album by Bob Marley and the Wailers, has long reigned as one of the most successful collections of all time. The set, which assembles many of the group's most familiar tunes and standout tracks, turned 40 years old last year. Despite being available for decades and already moving tens of millions of units around the globe, fans still can't get enough — especially in the U.S. Now that many Record Store Day exclusives have cleared out from the Billboard rankings, Legend is mounting yet another comeback. While it never stopped selling, the sales field is less competitive this time around. That opens up space on several charts, allowing Marley and his band to return to multiple tallies where the title has already spent hundreds of weeks. This frame, Legend appears on four Billboard charts in the U.S. alone. It returns to half of them — and it is once again a bona fide bestseller. The compilation breaks back in at No. 16 on the Vinyl Albums chart. At the same time, it reappears just one spot lower, at No. 17, on the Top Album Sales chart. The comeback is driven by 3,500 pure purchases, according to Luminate. Legend likely didn't even need to increase its sales to find its way back to these rosters. Many recent bestsellers vanished after selling out their Record Store Day exclusive runs, opening up space on tallies like the Top Album Sales and Vinyl Albums lists. That said, Marley's collection actually did grow its weekly purchase tally by 17%, moving several hundred more units than just a few days before. While Legend is back inside the top 20 on both purchase-only charts, the rankings are packed with comebacks. On the Top Album Sales roster, Legend is the third-highest rising reentry. Over on the vinyl-only tally, the title earns the ninth-loftiest return, trailing other beloved efforts by Fleetwood Mac, Lady Gaga, and Billie Eilish. Unsurprisingly, Legend continues to dominate the Reggae Albums chart — the only Billboard list dedicated solely to the genre. It would be stranger to see the album not in charge. Over the 277 frames it has spent on the roster, it has only failed to rule on one occasion. Legend already holds the distinction of being the second-longest-charting title in history on the Billboard 200, the most important albums ranking in America. This week, the project jumps 13 spots to No. 61. In terms of total consumption, the compilation moved 14,700 equivalent units this frame, with both sales and streaming playing large roles in that figure. It once peaked at No. 5 decades ago, and Legend has now spent 884 weeks somewhere on the Billboard 200. At some point later in 2025, it is poised to join Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon as only the second album to reach 900 weeks on the ranking.

Bob Marley Rocks Back Into The Top 40 With His 'Legend' Compilation

Bob Marley's Legend climbs on three U.K. charts this week, returning to the top 40 on one of them. ... More Bob Marley performs on stage, Hammersmith Odeon, London, United Kingdom, June 1976. (Photo by Erica Echenberg/Redferns) *** Local Caption *** Bob Marley's music has always resonated with global audiences, but it's in Western markets, particularly the United Kingdom, where his legend continues to grow. The reggae pioneer introduced a revolutionary sound and message of peace, love, and resistance to the world decades ago, and both his ethos and musical catalog still hit just as hard today. Long after his passing, Marley's work keeps finding new audiences and new relevance, and this week, one of his most recognizable releases is on the move in the U.K. The Legend compilation – which is credited to Marley and the Wailers — features many of the icon's best-known tracks and has become one of the most successful albums in history. This frame, Legend appears on three tallies in the U.K., powered by a combination of solid streaming numbers and continued sales. In every instance, Legend is on the rise, as consumption of the lengthy project is growing. Of the three rankings where Legend places, it returns to the top 40 on just one. The compilation jumps 15 spaces to land at No. 40 on the Official Albums Streaming chart. That means it's now one of the 40 most-streamed full-lengths in the country, which is an incredible feat for a project originally released more than four decades ago. Streaming typically favors newer releases, but Legend has always managed to cut through the noise and perform well on sites like Spotify and Apple Music. Legend doesn't quite return to the top 40 on the U.K.'s main album consumption tally this week, but it comes close. The compilation climbs six spots to No. 41 on the Official Albums chart. It also improves its standing on the Official Albums Sales list, moving up four rungs to No. 51. Legend is about to celebrate its five-hundredth week on the Official Albums Sales chart. That's a major achievement for any release, be it a traditional studio project or a compilation filled with huge singles. Even as it approaches that huge number, that's actually the shortest of the album's runs on any of the tallies on which it finds a home. It has now spent nearly 1,200 weeks on the main Official Albums chart, and not long ago, it passed 10 years on the Official Albums Streaming roster.

King Charles III is taking on an unexpected new role: radio DJ. Charles hosted an Apple Music broadcast released Monday called "The King's Music Room," in which he played a selection of favorite songs and spoke about each one. Charles described this as an "interesting and innovative" way to celebrate Commonwealth Day, as the tracks "originated from across the Commonwealth family and other parts of the world." On the show, Charles reflected that music "has that remarkable ability to bring happy memories flooding back from the deepest recesses of our memory" and said he would highlight "songs which have brought me joy." According to Apple Music, the show was recorded in Charles' office at Buckingham Palace. The king's first pick was "Could You Be Loved" by Bob Marley and the Wailers. Charles noted that he once met Marley, who had a "marvelous, infectious energy," "deep sincerity" and "profound concern for his community." He transitioned into "My Boy Lollipop" from another Jamaican singer, Millie Small. Next up was Kylie Minogue's "The Loco-Motion," which Charles described as "music for dancing" that has "that infectious energy" that makes it "incredibly hard to sit still." Moving back to the 1920s, Charles said Al Bowlly's "The Very Thought of You" is a tune that his "much-loved grandmother" used to play. "This was an era of songs made memorable by brilliant lyrics, incredible bands and unstoppable rhythm," he said. Before next playing "the superb" Grace Jones' version of "La Vie En Rose," Charles asked, "Is it possible to improve on such a classic song? See what you think." The king subsequently praised Raye, who was nominated for best new artist at the 2025 Grammys, as "one of our most exciting and acclaimed contemporary singer-songwriters" and played her song "Love Me Again." "Anyone who saw Raye perform at the Grammy Awards will know that she is a great ambassador for British music," he said. Who is Raye? Meet the Grammy nominated British singer who performed at the Oscars Charles added that Ross' "Upside Down" is "one of my particular favorites" and recalled that when he was younger, "it was absolutely impossible not to get up and dance when it was played." Near the end of the show, Charles said that he hopes listeners discovered some "new and interesting" songs from "the wonderfully diverse tapestry that makes up the modern Commonwealth, with its rich pattern of cultures that it continues to share with peoples across the entire world."
