Hyderabad: Expressing strong opposition against the Wakf (Amendment) Act, prominent Islamic scholars, legal experts and activists under the aegis of AIMPLB (All India Muslim Personal Law Board) decided to resume its demonstration. Calling for robust public mobilisation, Advisor to the Telangana Government Mohammed Ali Shabbir suggested the formation of coordination committees at the lowest levels to ensure the success of all agitation programmes led by AIMPLB. He also urged the Board to meet TPCC President Mahesh Kumar Goud and share their programme details, assuring that local Congress leaders would be involved in every step of the movement. Addressing a round table conference titled 'Save Wakf, Save Constitution Movement' organised by AIMPLB in City he assured full support to the board in its ongoing agitation against the Wakf Act. He said the Congress party would back all legal and democratic efforts to safeguard Wakf properties and uphold constitutional values. 'The All India Muslim Personal Law Board is not alone in this fight. The Congress party is fully with you. We support all your moves, be they legal battles, public awareness campaigns, or protests,' he declared. Government Advisor informed the participants that the party was actively pursuing a legal challenge in the Supreme Court and expressed hope that a stay on the new Act would be secured. Supreme Court to hear pleas challenging constitutional validity of Waqf Amendment Act on May 20
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday said that it would hear a batch of petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, on May 20. SC will consider whether an interim order is required or not on three major issues - waqf by user, nomination of non-Muslims to Wakf Council and Boards, and identification of government land under wakf. The two-judge bench of the apex court, led by the Chief Justice of India (CJI) Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai, however, clarified that it would not consider hearing on May 20 any petition challenging the validity of the Wakf Act, 1995, by Hindu parties while considering the need for passing any interim order. The top court on Thursday extended the earlier order till May 20 on the assurance given by the Solicitor General (SG) Tushar Mehta, senior law officer of the Centre, that no waqf properties, including those established by user, would be identified. He assured that no appointments to the Central Waqf Council or State Waqf Boards would be made under the 2025 Act, till May 20. Mehta also told the Supreme Court that he has filed a detailed response and affidavit on the three issues identified by the apex court in the Waqf case.

KCR is the first and last villain of Telangana: Mahesh Goud
TPCC president Mahesh Goud described BRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao as the first and the last villain of Telangana - blaming him for all the ills plaguing the State now. Countering Mr. Rao's attack on the Congress at a public meeting, Mr. Goud alleged that the absence of women in the meeting showcased how they could not convince a massive section of people with fake propaganda. In a sarcastic tone, he said there were more liquor bottles in the meeting than people. He claimed that people will never forgive Mr. Rao's family for 'looting' Telangana. 'Where did the hundreds of crores that the family enjoys now come from,' Mr. Goud asked recalling their financial status before the formation of Telangana. Accusing the BRS of aligning with the BJP, Mr Goud said Mr. Rao's reference to the BJP was just two minutes, while the remaining time was targeted towards the Congress, indicating their alliance. He asked why Mr Rao did not refer to the BC caste survey, SC categorisation or the Wakf Act. He reminded that without Sonia Gandhi, Mr. Rao could never have become the Chief Minister of Telangana - and belittling her showed how low the BRS can stoop down to.
