GNU hails neighboring countries' supportive positions for stability in Libya

Libya's Minister of State for Communication and Political Affairs in the Government of National Unity (GNU), Walid Al-Lafi, held separate meetings on Sunday with the ambassadors of Tunisia, Lassad Ajili, and Algeria, Abdelkrim Rekibi, to discuss the outcomes of the tripartite meeting held Saturday in Cairo, which brought together the foreign ministers of Tunisia, Algeria, and Egypt. According to the government platform Hakomitna, Al-Lafi praised the 'positions supportive of stability in Libya' and emphasized the importance of continued coordination and joint cooperation within the framework of regional proximity, to enhance the prospects of advancing the Libyan political process. He also reaffirmed the GNU's firm stance on the need to empower official state institutions—particularly the police and military—and to dismantle all armed groups operating outside the state framework, citing the involvement of some in grave violations and crimes against humanity. The meetings concluded with a joint reaffirmation of the importance of continued consultation and coordination in support of Libyan sovereignty and the building of state institutions grounded in law and legitimacy. The remarks come after Egypt, Tunisia, and Algeria issued a joint statement Saturday calling on all Libyan parties to immediately de-escalate tensions and hold simultaneous parliamentary and presidential elections. The Egyptian Foreign Ministry's statement noted that the three ministers renewed their call for maximum restraint and an immediate halt to escalation, emphasizing the need to safeguard the Libyan people and move forward with the political process aimed at unifying institutions and conducting synchronized national elections.
