Quebec woman, 68, dead after 2-vehicle crash in southwestern Manitoba on Monday
A 68-year-old Quebec woman died and several people were injured in a crash in southwestern Manitoba on Monday evening, RCMP say.
Police were called to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of highways 83 and 257 in the rural municipality of Wallace-Woodworth, at the southwest corner of Virden, around 5:30 p.m. Monday, RCMP said in a news release on Tuesday.
Officers found a heavily damaged SUV and a truck lying on its side farther down Highway 83, police said.
The SUV, which had four people inside, is believed to have stopped at a stop sign as it neared the highway but then continued across and was struck by the truck on the rear driver's side, police said.
A Quebec woman, 68, was pronounced dead at the site of the crash. The SUV driver, a 45-year-old woman from Saskatchewan, and two other passengers from Quebec were all taken to hospital and remain in stable condition, police said.
The truck driver, a 31-year-old man from Plum Coulee, and two other men in the vehicle — a 26-year-old man from the rural municipality of Stanley and a 52-year-old man from Altona — were not severely injured in the crash, police said, but a 19-year-old man from Winkler was seriously hurt and taken to hospital.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the collision, police said.
RCMP's investigation into the crash continues.
