Rams will face the Jacksonville Jaguars in London this season

Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford warms up before a game against the Eagles at SoFi Stadium in November. (Wally Skalij / Los Angeles Times) The Rams will be back on the international road this fall. The NFL announced on Tuesday that the Rams will be the visiting team against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Oct. 19 at Wembley Stadium in London. The game will kick off at 6:30 a.m. PDT and will be broadcast by NFL Network. Advertisement The full NFL schedule will be announced Wednesday at 5 p.m. PDT. After advancing to the NFC divisional-round last season — losing to the eventual Super Bowl-champion Philadelphia Eagles — the Rams are regarded as a Super Bowl contender. During the offseason, they came to terms with veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford on an adjusted contract, and added free agent receiver Davante Adams, offensive lineman Coleman Shelton and defensive lineman Poona Ford to a team that features young star players such as receiver Puka Nacua and edge rusher Jared Verse. The Rams were required to make previous International Series appearances because they did not have a permanent home stadium while SoFi Stadium was being built. Advertisement In 2016, under former coach Jeff Fisher, the New York Giants defeated the Rams, 17-10, at Twickenham Stadium. In 2017, then-first-year coach Sean McVay led the Rams to a 33-0 victory over the Arizona Cardinals at Twickenham Stadium. The previous week, the Rams played the Jaguars in Jacksonville, and then remained in the Florida city before departing for London. The next season, the Rams were scheduled to play the Kansas City Chiefs in Mexico City. But citing poor field conditions at Azteca Stadium after a Shakira concert, the NFL moved the 'Monday Night Football' game to Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The Rams defeated the Chiefs, 54-51, in the highest-scoring game in 'Monday Night Football' history. The week before that game, the Rams played the Atlanta Falcons, and then remained in Atlanta for three days before departing for London. This season, the Rams also will play road games at Atlanta, Philadelphia, Carolina, Baltimore and Tennessee. If one of those games precedes the game against the Jaguars, the Rams could remain there before traveling to London to play the Jaguars. (AP Photo/Wally Skalij) ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — A matchup between Justin Verlander and Mike Trout may not resonate the way it used to, but when Verlander struck out Trout with a fastball at 97.4 mph in the sixth inning, it was easy to appreciate that flash of greatness by the 42-year-old right-hander. In fact, this entire start showed Verlander still has a bit left in the tank. Advertisement Verlander allowed a run and two hits in six innings Sunday. He was in line for his first victory with the San Francisco Giants until the Los Angeles Angels scored four runs in the ninth to steal a 5-4 win. Verlander struck out six and lowered his ERA to 5.47. 'Felt like I've been trending in the right direction,' Verlander told reporters. 'It was nice to give us a better chance to win today.' It would have been the 263rd career win for the three-time Cy Young Award winner. This was only the second time he made it through six innings in his last 14 starts. Verlander joined the Giants on a $15 million, one-year contract before the season. Sunday was the best sign so far that this could be a worthwhile investment. Verlander became only the third pitcher in the last decade to pitch at least six innings while allowing two or fewer hits at age 42 or older. The others were Rich Hill and Bartolo Colon. Advertisement Trout is just 5 for 45 against Verlander. On Sunday, he went down swinging at a 96.2 mph fastball in the first inning, drew an eight-pitch walk in the fourth, then struck out swinging in the sixth on Verlander's fastest strikeout pitch since 2023. 'Pitched great," manager Bob Melvin said. 'Got a little bit of a pitch count battle there at the end, but got through six. ... Different velos on his fastball, slider when he needed it. Threw some curveballs and some changeups. Pitched really well.' ___ AP MLB:
