Wamiqa Gabbi says she has ‘seen enough in life to not be affected' by the release fiasco of Bhool Chuk Maaf
Bhool Chuk Maaf, the Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi-starrer time loop comedy, was ironically stuck in its own time loop of release. The makers had initially decided to skip its theatrical release and get a digital release. However, multiplex chain PVRINOX had moved the court challenging its producers' decision. Subsequently, the film was released in theatres on May 23. (Also read: Rajkummar Rao, Wamiqa Gabbi-starrer Bhool Chuk Maaf will now release in theatres on May 23, say makers) Now, in an interaction with Just Too Filmy, Wamiqa opened up about whether she learned anything about the entire issue of the film and the weight of holding on to such a film. Wamiqa said, 'It did nothing to me. I have seen enough in life to not be affected by this! It was a very big moment for me. I could have been crushed. I could have gone through multiple feelings. But I did not, because I have seen enough.' She explained, 'I have been rejected too many times. I have seen things being promised and then not happening. I have put all my faith into projects where I thought that this would just change my career or change my life, and it did not. I understood that it is not in my control. In all of that, my growth was still happening. Slow and steady.' It began when Maddock Films initially stated that the movie would skip its theatrical release on May 9 and get a digital release on Prime Video on May 16 due to the recent events and the heightened security drills across the nation following Operation Sindoor. The multiplex chain PVRINOX had moved the court challenging its producers' decision to release it on Prime Video directly. PVRINOX Limited (PVRINOX), Maddock Films Pvt. Ltd. (Maddock), and Amazon MGM Studios have reached an understanding and now the movie will be released in theatres on May 23. Bhool Chuk Maaf revolved around a soon-to-be-married man who realises that he is stuck in a time loop and keeps reliving the day before his wedding. It is available to watch on Prime Video.

Bhool Chuk Maaf box office collection day 1 early estimate: Rajkummar Rao-Wamiqa Gabbi film stares at low opening, earns Rs 4.62 cr
Bhool Chuk Maaf box office collection early estimate: Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi-starrer Bhool Chuk Maaf finally released in theatres today on Friday. The movie, which opened to mixed reviews from critics and the audience, has earned Rs 4.62 crore in India as of 7 pm, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. It is expected to be one of the lowest openers of 2025 so far. The low box office collection is all the more surprising given that the makers of Bhool Chuk Maaf had offered multiple discounts and slashed ticket prices at multiplexes. The film recorded an occupancy rate of 9.40% for morning shows and 18.26% in the afternoon. The highest turnout was in Chennai, with occupancy reaching 57.00%, according to Sacnilk. However, several reports suggested that Maddock Films made the decision just a night before the planned release due to extremely low advance bookings. The digital release, originally scheduled for May 16, was delayed after PVR-INOX filed a lawsuit against the makers, claiming losses of Rs 60 crore. The legal dispute has since been amicably resolved. As an exception to standard practice, Bhool Chuk Maaf will now release on OTT within a two-week window. A part of SCREEN's review of the movie read, 'For a long time, Bhool Chuk Maaf looks and feels like the poor man's Brahmastra (remember that one?). A couple prancing up and down Varanasi's ghats and gullies, surrounded by gais, gendas, gurus and the Ganga, and few raised eyebrows. Ultimately, Bhool Chuk Maaf may end up being remembered for all that happened off screen – the confusion between its theatrical and OTT release, and a 'compromise' (which has worried many in the industry) that means that within two weeks, it will be showing on a TV near you.'

Bhool Chuk Maaf cannot be released directly on OTT, says Bombay HC upholding PVR Inox rights
On the morning of May 8, a day before Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi-starrer Bhool Chuk Maaf was supposed to release theatrically, the film's producers Maddock Films announced that due to the Pahalgam attack, Operation Sindoor and the following events, the film will get a direct OTT release. A Bollywood Hungama report states that PVR Inox has decided to sue the production house for damages, and the Bombay High Court has restrained the film's OTT release till the issue is solved. (Also Read: Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi's Bhool Chuk Maaf to skip big screen outing, to release on OTT on this date) PVR Inox is taken legal action against Maddock Films for damages of ₹60 crore for non-playability of Bhook Chuk Maaf, according to the publication. The multiplex chain also alleged that the decision was taken due to 'poor advance booking' and not the rising tensions between India and Pakistan. The Bombay HC granted ad-interim relief to the theatre giant, restraining the production house and its associates from releasing Bhool Chuk Maaf on any platform – including OTT – until the expiry of the 8-week holdback period following the theatrical release in India. The verdict came after PVR Inox moved the court with urgency after Maddock Films suddenly revoked their agreement a day ahead of the theatrical release date. The theatre chain also argued that this was a clear breach of the agreement they signed with the production house on May 6, 2025. They also stated that 31 PVR theatres in Delhi had even commenced promotional activity for the film weeks in advance. But the production company argued that the 8-week holdback only applied if the film was released in cinemas, claiming they had the right to choose the release platform. The court, however, firmly held that a direct-to-OTT strategy, while beneficial under current circumstances, was not a valid basis to walk away from the agreement, pointing out that a last-minute cancellation would harm the multiplex operator financially and damage their reputation, apart from customer trust. On May 8, Maddock Films released a statement: 'In light of the recent events and the heightened security drills across the nation, we at Maddock Films and Amazon MGM Studios have decided to bring our family entertainer, Bhool Chuk Maaf, directly to your homes on May 16—only on Prime Video, worldwide. While we were eagerly looking forward to celebrating the film with you in theatres, the spirit of the nation comes first. Jai Hind.' The HC has listed the matter for further hearing on June 16.
