Packers Late-Round Rookie Sends Message With Pro-Level Mindset

The Green Bay Packers' defensive line was arguably their most disappointing position group last season. Despite well-defending the run, they ranked 27th in pass rush win rate. With significant contracts invested in Kenny Clark and Rashan Gary, plus two first-round picks in Lukas Van Ness and Devonte Wyatt, the pass rush underperformed relative to expectations. Green Bay strengthened its defensive line by selecting edge rushers Barryn Sorrell and Collin Oliver. In addition to the interior, defensive lineman Warren Brinson. Super Bowl LIX proved that having depth up front is essential for success. With that in mind, General Manager Brian Gutekunst is dedicated to strengthening the defensive line, ensuring Green Bay's trenches are ready for the upcoming season. Honestly, I think I'm a very good pass rusher, but I can't just be too cocky about it," Brinson said while speaking to the media during rookie minicamp. "I got to work hard, I got to ask Kenny (Clark) some stuff, just learn from the guys around me, get into practice, and just hear what they have to tell me. I'm trying to be a sponge and just soak in all the information, just find out the nuances of the NFL that I need to know to be elite and be ahead of other people." Advertisement Brinson also looks to make an impact beyond the football field. "My goal is to do my best to learn my part, do my job, and just be a leader for the guys around me," Brinson added. "I'm a rookie, but I still can lead by example by just doing my job, doing my part, staying in my playbook, and doing the right things." Brinson is a good athlete, earning a 78.0 run defense grade over the past two seasons at Georgia. Georgia's deep defensive line rotation limited his snaps, but he still showed flashes of his potential. He is well-positioned to contribute as a situational run-stopper in Green Bay, particularly on short-yardage downs. With T.J. Slaton departing in free agency, Brinson could step into a key role early and emerge as a reliable option in the interior run defense. Green Bay Packers 2025 sixth-round pick: DL Warren Brinson

The Green Bay Packers selected Georgia defensive lineman Warren Brinson in the sixth round (No. 198 overall) of the 2025 NFL draft. Profile Height: 6-5 Weight: 315 Age: 23 From: Savannah, GA College profile Breakdown: Consistently solid interior defender for Georgia's talent-rich defensive front. Produced 36 pressures and 31 stops over final two seasons in Athens. Played in 59 career games and was used at multiple defensive line spots. Terrific athletic at his size -- 6-5 and 315 pounds with a wingspan over 80" and 10 1/2" hands. Packers like his combination of pass-rushing potential and versatility. Playstyle is more befitting a traditional three-tech. Easy mover for his size and is effective on stunts and twists. Can take on a block, find the ball and get in on the stop. Scouting reports Dane Brugler's scouting report: "A part-time starter at Georgia, Brinson played across the defensive line in head coach Kirby Smart's hybrid fronts, lining up at the 4i-technique, sliding down to the nose in bear looks and aligning everywhere in between. His defensive snap count increased each of his five seasons in Athens, and he put steady play on tape — despite a stat sheet that won't draw the eye. Brinson is fairly stout against the run and works to keep his arms locked out to find the ball and create stuffs. He has explosive moments when he is given the freedom to pursue the pocket, but he'll need to be better with his hands and overall rush plan to get NFL blockers of balance. Overall, Brinson flashes NFL-level play with his ability to get of blocks and force his way through gaps, but excitement over his talent needs to be tempered by his sporadic impact. He offers intriguing tools in an NFL-ready body." Lance Zierlein's scouting report: "Brinson is the best version of himself when he's allowed to get up the field and make things happen. He gets upfield with purpose and pad level. He can get skinny, swim and rip his way into gaps to disturb the run design and compromise the quarterback's pocket. He has adequate strength at the point but won't control blockers or beat back double teams at a high enough rate when runs come downhill at him. Brinson's rush talent and disruptive qualities should fit one-gapping defenses looking for a rotational piece to create chaos inside." They said it: "I think Brinson coming out probably has a little more pass rush naturally. But again, a really big man that can do a lot of things. I think the coaching staff and I know I believe he can play up and down the line. He's not just a one position player on the defensive line. So that was one of the things that attracted us to him.' -- GM Brian Gutekunst New uniform: TBD Brinson wore No. 97 at Georgia. Kenny Clark wears the number in Green Bay. He'll need new digits as a rookie. RAS card Player highlights
