Walker rescued after suffering 'severe scalp wound' on Haystacks

A walker who suffered a 'severe scalp wound' on Haystacks has been rescued by Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team (MRT). Cockermouth MRT were deployed after receiving a call from Wasdale MRT on Wednesday, June 11 about a walker who had suffered a head injury on Haystacks. Upon arriving at the scene, the MRT were able to assess the walker's wound before being carried by the team to an awaiting rescue helicopter. Writing on social media, Cockermouth MRT said: "The call-out was transferred to Cockermouth and the team made its way down the valley. "Given the scarce details of the injury and potential consequences of head trauma, a HM Coastguard helicopter was requested to assist. "The Team drove via Honister to Dubs Hut before making its way on foot to the casualty. On arrival and initial assessment it was clear that it was a severe scalp wound requiring hospital care. "The casualty was treated and packaged before being carried by the Team to the waiting Rescue 936 helicopter at Inonimate Tarn." The rescue involved 17 team members from Cockermouth MRT and took two-and-a-half hours to complete.

A walker who injured their ankle after a fall on Scafell Pike has been rescued by Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team (MRT). Wasdale MRT were deployed on Saturday, June 7 after receiving a call from Cumbria Police about a walker who had been injured after a fall. After arriving at the scene, the team provided the walker with pain relief before they were stretchered to Brackenclose where they were transferred to hospital. Writing on social media, Wasdale MRT said: "The team was called by Cumbria Police about a walker who had fallen and injured her ankle. "After trying to continue, she was no longer able to bear weight. "A full callout was made and team members made their way to the scene. After a medical assessment, the offending ankle was splinted to provide pain relief and stability, after which a routine stretcher carry was made to Brackenclose. "The walker was then transferred to one of her party's vehicle for onward transfer to hospital and further assessment. "We wish her a quick recovery and hope she is back on the fells soon." The rescue involved 18 Wasdale MRT members and lasted three hours and 23 minutes.

A WALKER was stretchered from a Lake District peak after falling whilst on a family Easter Sunday walk. Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team were called out yesterday, April 20 at 2:30pm to Greathall Gill following reports that a walker in a family group had fallen on steep ground and suffered a leg injury. Teams gave the casualty medical assistance before the walker was taken to hospital for further treatment. The walker being given medical assistance (Image: Wasdale MRT) In a statement on social media, Wasdale MRT said: "A call was received yesterday from Cumbria Police about a walker in a family group who had fallen on steep ground, suffering a leg injury that made it impossible for her to continue. "The team was called out and made their way to the scene. After a medical assessment and splinting of the leg, the walker was transferred into the team stretcher. "The short descent was completed safely and the walker transferred to their own vehicle for onward transfer to hospital. We hope the walker recovers quickly and is back on the fells soon."
