Fall River police: Be prepared for road closures, detours during Day of Portugal festival
FALL RIVER — Day of Portugal descends upon the Gates of the City plaza this weekend.
Be prepared for fun and feasting, but also road closures as three-day event gets underway June 6 on Ponta Delgada Boulevard.
The Fall River Police Department has advised motorists traveling in the area of Ponta Delgada Boulevard to plan ahead and expect detours to accommodate the festival, which takes place Friday, June 6, to Sunday, June 8.
Ponta Delgada Boulevard will be closed between Anawan Street and the Water Street Connector during the festival hours.
Those looking to get to restaurants and businesses along nearby Ferry Street – such as Morgan's Cantina, Pier 52, Tipsy Seagull, Tipsy Toboggan, Canned Heat or Stumpy's Hatchet House – will need to use one of the following detour routes during the closure:
— Broadway Extension Ramp to Water Street Connector to Ponta Delgada Boulevard to Ferry Street
— Columbia Street to Ponta Delgada Boulevard to Ferry Street
— William Street to Almond Street to Ferry Street
Those attending the festival are encouraged to take advantage of free shuttle service provided by the city of Fall River for easy access to the festival.
Shuttles will be running Friday through Sunday every 25 to 35 minutes from the following parking areas:
— Fall River Municipal Credit Union on Milliken Boulevard
— T.A. Restaurant on Morgan Street
— Alexandra's on Morgan Street
— 10 North Main Street
— 1 Pearl Street parking garage
Additional parking is available at Santo Christo Credit Union, Santo Christo Church (Friday and Sunday only) and Chaves Market on Columbia Street, but no shuttle service is offered at these locations.
