Officers clear possible pipe bomb threat in southern Wisconsin city, declare area safe

WATERTOWN, Wis. (WFRV) – On Thursday, officers in southern Wisconsin worked to clear the scene of a possible pipe bomb threat, eventually declaring the area safe. Around 8:30 p.m. on May 29, the Watertown Police Department sent out a release warning the public that they had received a report of a possible pipe bomb in the area of South Third Street and Market Street in Watertown. Later that night, Watertown PD declared the area safe, indicating there was no further threat to the public. An updated press release was sent out on Friday morning with more details, including a description of the potential explosive device. Officers say the initial call came in around 7:05 p.m., reporting a suspicious object that had been placed on a residential gas meter. Department of Natural Resources warning Wisconsinites over statewide Air Quality Advisory due to Canadian wildfire smoke The Milwaukee Police Department Hazardous Devices Unit, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and We Energies responded to the scene and assisted with the investigation. Ultimately, the suspicious device was determined not to be explosive. No additional details were provided as the investigation remains active. WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWTI) – A 43-year-old Watertown man is facing child pornography charges. According to the Watertown Police Department, they arrested Shane Kirkby on a number of felony charges. Jefferson Co. pair charged in death of two-year-old girl Kirby was charged with the following: Use of a child in a sexual performance Promoting an obscene sexual performance by a child First-degree obscenity Promoting a sexual performance by a child Possessing an obscene sexual performance by a child Second-degree unlawful surveillance Authorities were called on the morning of March 17, 2024 to investigate a sex offense. Kirby is alleged to used hidden cameras to record other people without consent or knowledge. A search warrant was executed and evidence was taken that led to the most recent charges. He was arraigned in the Jefferson County Jail and remanded to the county jail on $10,000 bail. Watertown PD was assisted by the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, the Child Advocacy Center of Northern New York, the New York State Police, and the Jefferson County Department of Emergency Management 911 Dispatch Center. 1 dead in head-on crash near Bushnell

SIOUX FALLS S.D. (KELO) — One person died and another was seriously injured in a head-on crash one mile north of Bushnell in Brookings County on Monday afternoon. The Department of Public Safety says the driver of a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling southbound on 478th Avenue in the northbound lane, when it collided with an oncoming northbound 1985 Freightliner dump truck. Watertown PD seize one pound of meth The driver of the Tahoe died at the scene. The driver of the Freightliner sustained serious, non-life-threatening injuries. TOWN OF PAMELIA, N.Y. (WWTI) – The New York State Police are investigating a jackknifed tractor-trailer incident that occurred on the morning of Tuesday, April 8. Around 10:40 a.m., state troopers responded to a report of a jackknifed tractor-trailer on Interstate 81 in the Town of Pamelia in Jefferson County. Watertown PD addresses social media rumors regarding Canadian vehicles A preliminary investigation found 55-year-old Patrick Zent of North Tonawanda was operating a 2016 Freightliner southbound on Interstate 81 when he lost control of the vehicle due to snow-covered roadway conditions. The truck subsequently jackknifed, and the impact caused the vehicle's fuel tank to be punctured. According to state police, this resulted in the release of approximately 60 gallons of fuel onto the roadway. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation was notified of the spill and responded to the scene for spill mitigation and cleanup. Zent was given a traffic ticket for speed not reasonable and prudent. The vehicle was removed from the scene by Van Tassel Towing. Massena man facing drug charges after traffic stop

MASSENA, N.Y (WWTI) – A 28-year-old Massena man is facing drug charges after a Monday traffic stop in St. Lawrence County. New York State Police arrested Daniel Jordan and charged him wit second, third and fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance after it was alleged that Jordan was found in possession of approximately 26 grams of methamphetamine and 14 grams of cocaine. Watertown PD addresses social media rumors regarding Canadian vehicles The stop was initiated after Jordan was pulled over for an alleged obstructed rear plate in the village of Massena. He was subsequently arrested and transported to the State Police station in Massena for processing. After being arraigned in the Massena Town Court, Jordan was remanded, without bail, to the St. Lawrence County Jail. State Police were assisted in this matter by the Massena Police Department, U.S. Border Patrol, Canton Police Department, St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Office, St. Lawrence County Drug Task Force and St. Lawrence County District Attorney's Office.
