Officers clear possible pipe bomb threat in southern Wisconsin city, declare area safe

WATERTOWN, Wis. (WFRV) – On Thursday, officers in southern Wisconsin worked to clear the scene of a possible pipe bomb threat, eventually declaring the area safe. Around 8:30 p.m. on May 29, the Watertown Police Department sent out a release warning the public that they had received a report of a possible pipe bomb in the area of South Third Street and Market Street in Watertown. Later that night, Watertown PD declared the area safe, indicating there was no further threat to the public. An updated press release was sent out on Friday morning with more details, including a description of the potential explosive device. Officers say the initial call came in around 7:05 p.m., reporting a suspicious object that had been placed on a residential gas meter. Department of Natural Resources warning Wisconsinites over statewide Air Quality Advisory due to Canadian wildfire smoke The Milwaukee Police Department Hazardous Devices Unit, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and We Energies responded to the scene and assisted with the investigation. Ultimately, the suspicious device was determined not to be explosive. No additional details were provided as the investigation remains active. WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWTI) – A 50-year-old Watertown man is facing several charges after an incident late last week. According to the Watertown Police Department, Daniel Gilbert was allegedly recklessly operating his vehicle. Authorities allege that Bradley was operating his vehicle on Bradley Street at speeds allegedly over 70 miles per hour. Watertown FD battles Memorial Day blaze Police officials also state the Bradley allegedly tried to force a car with two occupants off the road. It was also alleged that Gilbert also parked in front of the victim's car, exited his vehicle and pointed a black, imitation KBG pistol at the victims. Police records indicate that Gilbert has a previous second-degree assault conviction from 2011 in Lewis County Court. This meant that Gilbert was in unlawful possession of the pistol. Authorities also stated that Gilbert allegedly was in possession of a white crystal substance that tested positive for methamphetamine. Here are the following charges that Gilbert is facing: Two counts of second-degree menacing Third-degree criminal possession of a weapon Two counts of first-degree reckless endangerment Seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance Reckless driving Driving without a license He was arrested and transported to the Jefferson County Public Safety Building, where Gilbert was processed and held prior to arraignement. WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWTI) – A 38-year-old Carthage woman is facing multiple charges after allegedly stealing $40,000 in assistance that she wasn't entitled to. According to the Watertown Police Department, they charged Shannon Ball with a number of felony charges: Third-degree welfare fraud Third-degree grand larceny First-degree offering a false instrument for filing Misuse of food stamps Authorities allege that Ball lied about her household income on applications for SNAP, or food stamp, benefits. It was also alleged that she lied about this information on HEAP or Home Energy Assistance Program, applications. Ball was arraigned in Watertown City Court and released. WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWTI) – A 26-year-old Watertown man is facing charges after allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl on the Veterans Memorial Parkway. According to the Watertown Police Department, Edmund Zayas-Marquette was charged with a felony count of second-degree rape. The charges stem from an alleged incident that occurred near March 16 on the parkway near the 200 block of Newell Stret. He was arraigned in the Jefferson County Court. WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWTI) – The City of Watertown is reminding the public to be aware of an ongoing email scam. In a press release from the city, officials are advised that fraudulent emails are being sent to citizens claiming that people owe money in order to complete transactions with the planning department. If anyone receives an email asking to send money to the planning department, they are advised to to respond to the email. Instead, please call 315-785-7741 in order to verify the validity of the message. The city advises anyone that has already given money to a fraudulent actor as a result of any type of scheme, to contact the Watertown Police Department at the non-emergency phone number at 315-786-2233.
