Jesse Watters Claims Pope's Political Views Won't Affect U.S.A.

Jesse Watters says he's got no issue with the Pope's more liberal views ... 'cause they aren't gonna do a darn thing to affect the conservative agenda in the U.S.A. We caught up with the Fox News host at LAX Friday ... and, we had to ask him if he thinks Pope Leo XIV's political views are going to affect politics in this country -- after all, before he was the pope, he was a cardinal who popped off about President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance on X. Watters says he doesn't care what the Pope believes ... 'cause no matter who he is, American politicians are still going to do their own work -- with little thought for what the papacy wants. As Watters puts it, "The pope does his thing, and America does our thing, and it's all good." When it comes to Trump's invitation -- delivered by Vance to Pope Leo, asking him to come to the White House -- Watters says he's got a big reason to think it won't happen ... most people gotta go to the Vatican to see the Pope, not the other way around. ICYMI ... Vance met with the Pope at the Apostolic Palace -- and, he gave him a few gifts, including the invite to the White House, which Leo indicated he'd eventually accept, and a Chicago Bears jersey with his name on it. We also asked Watters if he'd ever have a drink with CNN's Jake Tapper ... listen to the response for yourself at the end of the vid. Pope Leo might be the big dog in Vatican City ... but, it sounds like Watters doesn't think he's got any sway over the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.

GOP congressman's reason for refusing to drink out of straws is depressing

There's a lot of serious stuff going on in Washington these days. That's why I was thankful to see Fox News' Jesse Watters send a correspondent to Capitol Hill this week to tackle one of the more pressing issues of our time: What do Republican congressmen think about Watters' 'rules for men'? Watters unveiled this inspired list in March, which he said was mostly 'just funny' and 'not that serious.' It urges men to avoid such unmanly activities as eating soup in public, crossing their legs and drinking from a straw, among other things. 'One of the reasons you don't drink from a straw is the way your lips purse,' Watters said on Fox News' 'The Five' at the time. 'It's very effeminate.' It would seem Rep. Tim Burchett agrees. 'I don't drink out of a straw,' the Tennessee Republican told Fox News when asked to comment on Watters' anti-straw guidance on Thursday. 'That's what the women in my house do.' I've reached out to a spokesperson for Burchett to confirm whether he was serious about his anti-straw comment, and I will update this post if and when he responds. Let's hope he was kidding — I'm concerned for any man who actually believes that using a straw is emasculating. There is hope he's joking. As Vanity Fair pointed out, Burchett hasn't always been opposed to straws. It was just last November when he posed with a milkshake — and straw! — on Instagram. 'Milkshakes before noon and great responses at the polls in Claiborne and Grainger Counties — can't beat it!' Burchett wrote in the caption. What's more, Burchett signed Trump's executive order in February seeking to end the 'irrational campaign against plastic straws.' That sure seems like something a guy who likes straws would do. The Watters 'rules for men' tour also included a question about male companionship, which would actually be a great topic for discussion, given recent studies on male loneliness in the U.S. But Watters, of course, says real men don't have 'male best friends.' When asked for his reaction to that rule, Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, told Fox News, 'Jesse needs a friend.' This article was originally published on

Republican Congressman Roasted After Saying Straws Are for Women

In a strange appeal to a right-wing conception of masculinity, Representative Tim Burchett proclaimed that he does not drink any liquid out of straws, because he is a masculine man and straws are for feminine women. '[Jesse] Watters says men should not drink out of straws in public, or at all,' a Fox News host told Burchett on Thursday, asking what the Republican representative thought. 'I don't drink out of a straw brother, that's what the women in my house do,' Burchett responded. Burchett was swiftly ridiculed online. 'Fellas, is it gay to drink out of a straw?' New York Representative Robert Garcia quipped. 'Fox News always asking the tough questions.' 'What is it about these MAGA conservatives that they have to prove how manly they are all the time?' said one X use. 'Imagine your country's on fire and Fox News is debating the gender politics of straws. Grown men on primetime TV clutching pearls over plastic tubes,' wrote another. 'If masculinity is this fragile, maybe let it melt with the ice in their sad little cups.' Some simply posted uncaptioned pictures of President Trump and Burchett himself using straws. This asinine idea that using a straw is unbecoming of a 'real man' seemed to gain steam on the internet around 2015, when Esquire's Jill Krasney and others proclaimed that 'no self-respecting man consumes his libation with a straw.' But the trend was popularized by Fox News host Jesse Watters and his 'rules for men.' 'I have rules for men, they're just funny. They're not that serious,' Watters said in March. 'You don't eat soup in public, you don't cross your legs, and you don't drink from a straw. And one of the reasons you don't drink from a straw is the way your lips purse. It's very effeminate.' In 2023, Watters chided then-President Joe Biden for using a straw too. 'You know I recommend all men refrain from using straws. It's unbecoming,' he said. 'The way a man's lips purse, the size of the straw is just too dainty, the way your fingers clasp on it.... No, come on. Straws are for women and little kids.' Regardless of how serious Watters claims to be about his rules for men, there are quite a few poor souls out there pushing the same idea. 'Beloved, if you were unfortunate enough to be born to a single mother who didn't teach you anything and ran your dad off then you probably don't know this: men do not drink from straws,' said the massively popular right-wing content creator Wranglerstar in a video titled 'Everything is Falling Apart.' This incredibly stupid talking point had been previously relegated to Watters and his right-wing acolytes in the depths of YouTube and TikTok. Now, it's getting airtime in the halls of Congress.

In a recent montage on Fox News, GOP lawmakers responded to Jesse Watters' rules for men, with producer Johnny Belisario receiving a range of responses from several Republicans. The Context During a March episode of The Five, Watters said "I have rules for men," in response to comments made by Minnesota Governor Tim Walz about what he saw as MAGA voters' focus on his masculinity. While Watters did specify that his rules for men are "just funny," views on gender roles have long fed the cultural divide between Democrats and Republicans. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) speaks during a roundtable discussion on the "Take It Down Act" in the Mike Mansfield Room at the U.S. Capitol on March 03, 2025 in Washington, DC. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) speaks during a roundtable discussion on the "Take It Down Act" in the Mike Mansfield Room at the U.S. Capitol on March 03, 2025 in Washington, To Know In March, Watters said that his rules for men included: don't eat soup in public, don't cross your legs, don't drink from a straw, don't wave both hands simultaneously and don't drink milkshakes. During a montage of interviews on Jesse Watters Primetime, Johnny Belisario asked Republican members of the House and the Senate for their thoughts on Watters' rules. Belisario asked Louisiana Representative John Kennedy about Watters' soup rule. "He says men shouldn't eat soup in public. What do you think of that?" In response, Kennedy said, "A man shouldn't eat kale at all." Speaking to Tennessee Representative Tim Burchett, Belisario highlighted Watters rule about straws, to which Burchett responded that he does not drink out of straws. Belisario also spoke to Texas Senator Ted Cruz, about another of Watters' rules, which purports that men "should not have male best friends." In response, Cruz said that Watters "needs a friend." Missouri Senator Josh Hawley was asked by Belisario about Watters' rule that men should not cross their legs, to which Hawley responded, "Whatever Jesse says is good with me." Watters had said that his rules are, "just funny" and "not that serious." The remarks courted some backlash on social media, with some people poking fun at the Fox News host, and a picture of him drinking from a straw resurfacing online. Walz's remarks about masculinity came during an appearance on California Governor Gavin Newsom's podcast This is Gavin Newsom in March. The former Democratic vice presidential candidate said that MAGA voters were "scared" of his masculinity. "They know I can fix a truck, they know I'm not bull***ing on this," "It just baffled me how much time they spent trying to attack me, that I was not masculine enough in their vision." What People Are Saying Senator Ted Cruz, speaking on Fox News: "Jesse need a friend." Representative Tim Burchett, speaking on Fox News: "I don't drink out of a straw brother. That's what the women in my house do." Representative John Kennedy, speaking on Fox News: "A man shouldn't eat kale at all. You know the best way to prepare kale? You mix a little olive oil in with the kale, that way it slides out of the pan very easily into the garbage." Jesse Watters on The Five said: "I have rules for men. they're just funny. They're not that serious. You don't eat soup in public, you don't cross your legs. And you don't drink from a straw." Walz told Newsom on the latter's podcast: "They know I can fix a truck, they know I'm not bull***ing on just baffled me how much time they spent trying to attack me, that I was not masculine enough in their vision." What's Next Walz is considering running for a third term as Minnesota governor. The Minnesota gubernatorial election is scheduled to take place in November 2026.

Impressionist Roasts Jesse Watters To His Face Live On Fox News

Comic and impressionist Matt Friend mocked Fox News host Jesse Watters live on his own show Thursday. Friend opened the interview with a sharp jab that invoked Watters' famously disapproving mother. 'Every night, millions of Americans invite you into their homes — if only your mother would do the same,' Friend quipped. Anne Watters, a Democrat, has publicly criticized her son in the past, calling him out for 'sweeping statements' and 'disdain for diversity.' When he took over Tucker Carlson's coveted 8 p.m. slot on Fox, she called in to warn him: 'Do not tumble into any conspiracy rabbit holes.' And Watters claimed last year, following Donald Trump's election victory, that his mother hadn't invited him to Thanksgiving dinner, though it remains unclear how serious he was being. During Thursday's interview, Friend didn't hold back. At one point, he impersonated Trump and joked that Watters was 'smiling like a dead dog.' Watters, in return, later asked, 'Has anybody ever punched you in the face?' 'That's a great question, Jesse,' Friend replied. 'That's more of a question for you, I would add.' .@themattfriend brings his impressions to Primetime — Jesse Watters (@JesseBWatters) May 23, 2025 Friend, whose exchange with Watters was largely, well, friendly, insisted his aim with his impressions was simply to make people laugh. He'd be happy to do more impressions of Democratic figures, 'but there are no Democrats left,' Friend zinged, before launching into impressions of former Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Bernie Sanders and Kamala Harris' 2024 running mate, Tim Walz.
