PD: Employee pepper-sprayed in Waynesboro robbery
Police said two men have been arrested in a Waynesboro robbery where an employee was pepper-sprayed on Memorial Day. According to the Waynesboro Police Department, on May 26 officers responded to a reported theft and assault at the Tractor Supply Co., located at 301 Lew Dewitt Boulevard. A suspect, later identified as 37-year-old Joshua Lee Talley of Staunton, allegedly bypassed the registers with a cart full of merchandise. When confronted in the parking lot by a store employee, he reportedly pepper-sprayed the employee in the face, causing injury. He fled the scene in a grey Chevrolet Impala reportedly driven by Andrew Clay Ottinger, 27, of Waynesboro, police said. The following day, police went to a residence in the 500 block of Bluff Avenue in Waynesboro, where Ottinger was arrested without incident. Officers searched the home and found Talley hiding inside, police said. He reportedly resisted arrest and engaged in a physical altercation with police but was taken into custody. Talley faces felony charges of robbery, illegal use of gases, and assault on a police officer. He was also charged with misdemeanor obstruction of justice. Ottinger is charged with being an accessory to robbery. Both suspects are being held without bond at Middle River Regional Jail. ‘He was my baby': Waynesboro mother seeks answers on son's disappearance
WAYNESBORO, Miss. (WHLT) – A Waynesboro mother is seeking answers after her son, John Gandy, vanished in January 2025. The 19-year-old was last seen on Wednesday, January 8 getting into a red car near his apartment around 5:30 p.m. 'It's overwhelming, definitely overwhelming. I'm just anxious. I just need some answers. Need some help. Because it's been a little over a month, and nothing's really been accomplished,' said Shae Gandy, his mother. John's phone last pinged the same night near Holly Bush Church Road in Waynesboro. He hasn't been heard from since. Two teens plead guilty in death of USM football player His mother believes something bad happened to her son, but she cannot think of anyone who would want to hurt him. 'He loves his family. He has a brother. He loves to play games, Madden, the football games, and basketball. So in that, he was very competitive, but he was just a friendly face. He was my baby,' she said. A reward of $7,500 is being offered for information on John's disappearance. The reward has led to a few tips. The case was initially handled by the Waynesboro Police Department before being handed to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff Jerry Mosely said the department is following up on all leads and continues to search for John. His family believes more can be done. 'We need some outside help to come in because this is just ridiculous, and at this point, it's a missing teenager. So, it doesn't matter if it's the sheriff's department or if it's Waynesboro Police Department. We should come together as a small community in both departments. Should work together on finding my son,' said Shae. A GoFundMe has been set up to help raise money for the reward for information. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. Robert O. Lafferty Jr., 37, of Waynesboro, is facing 11 charges of possession of child pornography, second or subsequent offense, court records show. In 2006, Lafferty was convicted on multiple charges in Augusta County and listed on the state's sex offender registry. On Friday, Jan. 31, detectives from the Waynesboro Police Department executed a search warrant at Lafferty's residence in the 1800 block of Monticello Street.
