Prince William aims to transform rural communities through Duchy of Cornwall initiatives

Prince William has spoken about his mission to make a 'meaningful difference in rural communities' through the Duchy of Cornwall, which he inherited after becoming the Prince of Wales. 'There's so much good we can do in the rural world,' he said during a visit to a community horticultural project, in an exclusive interview with The Telegraph on Friday. The Prince spent the day among volunteers, planting runner beans, inspecting the season's first nectarines, and engaging with young people taking part in hands-on therapy sessions designed to build confidence and calmness. Eleanor Carr, the horticultural therapy lead, explained how the site had once been nothing more than tangled brambles. Now, with support from the Duchy, it hosts educational sessions for secondary school students. 'Do you see a change in them, a difference?' William asked her. 'Is it confidence and calmness?' Impressed by the initiative, he added with a smile: 'Chelsea Flower Show, here we come!' Throughout the visit, William maintained his trademark warmth and humour. On being shown a postcard with a drawing of him by a volunteer's daughter, he quipped, 'She's given me more hair, so I love her for that.' As he prepared to leave, he asked staff if damson trees could be donated to the orchard – a wish that had coincidentally been voiced by volunteers that same morning. 'It's about responsibility, it's about leadership, and doing what's right on the social issues of our time,' he said. 'This is what we're going to do to make people's lives in Cornwall better. That, I feel as Duke of Cornwall, is something I should be doing.' The Prince's hands-on involvement with the Duchy extends far beyond symbolic appearances. He frequently sends video messages to support Duchy-led events, including a recent river conservation meeting and a charity boxing night. A key part of his vision includes addressing mental health in farming communities. William has recently become patron of 'We Are Farming Minds', a charity co-founded by farmer Sam Stables, who once struggled with suicidal thoughts. The organisation now operates a 24/7 support line, funds mental health counselling and training, and arranges transport for isolated individuals to attend support sessions. Prince William also touched on the future of the Duchy, which will eventually pass to his eldest son, Prince George. 'I'm trying to make sure I'm prioritising stuff that's going to make people's lives, living in those areas, better,' he said. If George inherits while still a minor, William would act as his guardian. After the visit, the Prince departed in a Land Rover Defender, heading to the train station accompanied by his private secretary and a small security team, ready to return home in time to see Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis after school.

Prince William reduced Charles 'to tears' with unexpected comment about future

Prince William has been the Duke of Cornwall for just over two years, since his father King Charles acceded to the throne following the death of his mother the Queen in September 2022 The Royal Family, particularly King Charles and Prince William, have experienced significant changes in recent years. With the passing of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022, Charles ascended to the throne, while William inherited the title of Prince of Wales. Along with this new role, William also became the Duke of Cornwall, taking on the stewardship of the Duchy of Cornwall estate, a responsibility his father had held for over five decades. In the ITV documentary 'Prince Charles: Inside the Duchy of Cornwall', viewers witnessed an unprecedented glimpse into Charles's deep connection with the estate. ‌ And the documentary featured a poignant moment where Charles was visibly moved by a remark from William about the future of the estate. ‌ During the programme, William is seen engaging with Mervyn Keeling, a second-generation farmer, discussing the private estate. Reflecting on his eventual inheritance, William expressed: "I've started to think about how I will inherit the Duchy one day and what I do with it. I think it's really important, the family angle, I really do." Viewers were treated to a clip of Charles, who shared his emotional reaction to a conversation between his son and a farmer. He confessed: "When I saw it, I couldn't believe it. I was deeply touched and moved by what he said. Frankly, it reduced me to tears. It did, really. Because, I suddenly thought, well, just hearing that from him has made the last 50 years worthwhile." Since taking on the title of Duke of Cornwall, William has assumed full responsibility for the Duchy of Cornwall and is beginning to leave his own imprint on it. Earlier this year, William became patron of We Are Farming Minds, a Duchy of Cornwall-supported charity, set up to help farmers experiencing isolation and mental health issues. On a visit to Folly Farm, nestled in a 250-acre nature reserve in Pensford, Chew Valley, William was joined by its founders, Duchy tenants Sam and Emily Stables, who started the organisation from their Hertfordshire farm in 2020 after Sam tried to take his own life following his struggles with his mental health. ‌ The couple met William and the Princess of Wales in 2023 and took them on a tour of their Kings Pitt Farm in Aconbury to discuss the charity. William joined Sam, Emily and Hope for a fireside chat about mental health in front of a group of 60 from the next generation of duchy tenant farmers. The session was part of an inaugural event aimed at inspiring young farmers with their future ventures, such as succession planning. William as the Duke of Cornwall is landlord to duchy farming tenants. His new patronage builds on the duchy's rural mental health strategy, launched in 2023, which aims to make the duchy the leading provider of mental health support to all its tenants.

Royals on reality TV as Prince William has warning for Clarkson's Farm star in fun cameo

Royalty appearing on unscripted television shows is nothing new. This week everyone has been talking about Prince William making a cameo on Jeremy Clarkson's show Clarkson's Farm. The future king had some fun filming with Clarkson's Farm stars Kaleb Cooper and Charlie Ireland, although Clarkson himself was not seen meeting with Prince William. While royals don't often make appearances on reality TV shows, it's not unheard of. From Harry and Meghan to King Charles, here are the moments where royals have featured on unscripted TV. Prince William will appear in the fifth series of the Prime Video series. Clarkson's Farm series four is expected to be released in the summer of 2025. Clarkson's Farm star Cooper's first words to the prince were: "Great hair!" In his role as the landlord of Duchy farms, the royal met with Clarkson's Farms stars Cooper and Charlie Ireland at an event to talk about the challenges of farming. The Prince of Wales had a cheeky warning for the farm manager as he told him what his 11-year-old son had said to him. He told him: "You've got George watching now. I said to him, 'What shall I say if I meet Kaleb?' Prince William said, continuing, 'He said, 'Tell Kaleb to mind his language'." Afterwards, Cooper said: "I did get told off for swearing too much… I tried to stop, but at the same time, it's awesome. That's what I like about the whole show… I've had so many people thank me, going 'you brought the family together'. It's a great feeling." Ireland added: "It's great [Prince George watches Clarkson's Farm] because it's meant to bring everyone together, isn't it – on the family sofa." Prince William become a patron of charity We Are Farming Minds which shines a light on poor mental health in farming which happens as a result of isolation, long hours and factors outside farmers' control such as bad weather. It comes after Netflix confirmed the Duchess of Sussex has filmed a second series of unscripted show With Love, Meghan. Meghan Sussex (having adopted her royal title as a surname like Princess Kate and Prince William did) is back in front of the camera for the lifestyle series where she shares tips on cooking, flower arranging, gifts and more. The Netflix show wasn't filmed at her California home, in Montecito, but instead at a beautiful show house. With Love, Meghan attracted scathing reviews from some critics. At the same time as the show, Sussex has launched her own lifestyle brand As Ever. "When your children get to a certain age — when you're not just playing in the sandbox with them but almost playing in your own sandbox again — it's super joyful," Sussex told PEOPLE. "As a woman, a mom and a wife, to be able to find yourself again — in a way that was always present but that you maybe couldn't put as much attention on as you now can when your kids are a little bit older — is a wonderful feeling." Before becoming king, Charles made a "very special" appearance on The Repair Shop that aired in 2023 while he was still the Prince of Wales. It was for a milestone episode The Repair Shop: A Royal Visit, filmed between the autumn of 2021 and the spring of 2022, celebrating the BBC's centenary. The monarch was joined at The Repair Shop by some of the students on The Prince's Foundation's building craft programme which is a training scheme teaching skills such as wood carving. He said in the episode: "Not everyone is designed for the academic... I know from The Prince's Trust, I have seen the difference we can make to people who have technical skills which we need all the time. I think that's been the biggest problem, sometimes that is forgotten. Apprenticeships are vital, but they just abandoned apprenticeships for some reason. It gives people intense satisfaction and reward." For repair, Charles selected two items: an 18th-century bracket clock from The Prince's Foundation's Dumfries House headquarters collection and a piece of Wemyss Ware made for Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee. Before the results were revealed, the then future king asked: "Have you sorted this? The suspense is killing me!" In 2022, Prince Harry and his wife Meghan invited the cameras into their lives for their own documentary self-titled series Harry and Meghan with Netflix. It was part of a mega deal for five years, reported to be worth $100m (approximately £78.6m). They quit their royal duties in the UK in 2018 choosing to make a new life for themselves in America. The couple are still living in California with their two children Archie and Lili. In 2022, Harry and Meghan shared insights into their private love story and lives that no one knew about before from the moment they met on Instagram to Prince Harry's secret checklist of potential girlfriend qualities. One of the most talked about moments however was when the Duchess of Sussex demonstrated how she curtsied when she first met the queen. She said: "I didn't know I was going to meet her until moments before. We were in the car and we were going to Royal Lodge for lunch. And [Harry] was like, 'Oh, my grandmother is here. She's going to be there after church'. I remember we were in the car, driving, and he's like, 'You know how to curtsy, right?' And I just thought it was a joke." Also in 2022, Mike Tindall asked Prince William's permission to go Down Under for reality series I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here fronted by Ant and Dec. The former rugby player became a member of the royal family when he married Zara, daughter of Princess Royal, Anne. "You don't want to upset anyone," he said on his podcast The Good, The Bad and The Rugby. "I spoke to the Prince of Wales about it and he said 'Great, go have fun'." While he kept his conversations about the royals short in the jungle, Tindall did share some fun moments like his boozy first date with his wife Zara and the time he ripped his trousers in front of his then-future mother-in-law at his 30th birthday party. "I was dancing on the dance floor. I had like flares on, full outfit, but it was quite tight," he said on I'm a Celebrity. "Nothing ever fits a rugby player's bum and legs. So I was dancing with my mother-in-law, and I did a 'slut drop' in front of my mother-in-law." He added: "Ripped my trousers, straight in front of her... It happened to be that the boxers that I had on at that time said 'nibble my nuts.' As I've turned round, she's gone, 'I'd rather not.'" Tindall came fourth on the reality series. Back in 2019, Zara and Mike Tindall got behind the wheel for Top Gear. The royal couple joined then Top Gear hosts Freddie Flintoff, Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris. The Princess Royal's daughter won the first competitive challenge where she drove a Jaguar at high speed but her husband Mike was the overall winner of the timed lap. In their every day lives, Mike Tindall revealed he does most the driving. "If we go out together, I'll generally drive." He joked: "Just because she likes to drink!" His wife laughed: "Oh my God... Normally because I'm putting food in the backseat trying to keep a child quiet."

Prince George Called TV Star to the Carpet with Six-Word Critique, Dad Prince William Shares

Prince George may only be 11 years old, but he's already mastered the art of manners and decorum—and isn't afraid to call out those who may slip from time to time. George's dad Prince William visited a farm in Somerset on March 26, where he met the stars of Clarkson's Farm, a hit series in the U.K. While there, William met farmer Kaleb Cooper as part of the Prince of Wales' initiative to raise awareness of mental health for farmers, and William told Cooper that George was watching the show, per Hello!. 'You've got George watching now,' William told Cooper during the visit. 'I said to him, 'What shall I say if I meet Kaleb?'' George replied of Cooper—who apparently curses frequently—'Tell Kaleb to mind his language.' It's not every day that you get told to stop swearing so much by an 11-year-old future king, but Cooper took it in stride: 'I did get told off for swearing too much,' he said afterwards. 'I tried to stop, but at the same time, it's awesome. That's what I like about the whole show—I've had so many people thank me, going, 'You brought the family together.' It's a great feeling.' Of hearing George watches Clarkson's Farm, Cooper's co-star Charlie Ireland said, 'It's great because it's meant to bring everyone together isn't it? On the family sofa.' William's visit Wednesday came alongside the announcement that he is the new patron of We Are Farming Minds, a charity supported by the Duchy of Cornwall—which William, as Prince of Wales and heir to the British throne, runs. We Are Farming Minds was created to help farmers experiencing isolation and mental health issues. 'With a lot of the work and the research we've done, it will take a generation to fix this, but I do think we're headed the right way, and I'm excited by that journey and that progress,' William said. He also spoke about the impact of constantly being on phones, saying, 'I worry how much we're on our phones and data—first thing you're doing when you wake up in the morning, last thing you do at night, check phones. We've got to get out of that habit, because mentally, that is not good for all of us. Your brain is not resting.' William's kids George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis are never far from his mind, and, per The Sun, he added of cell phone usage, 'We've got to be really careful with the practices we teach [our] children and the way we live. We've got to take time out for ourselves, calm down, have a clear think, different perspective.' After 2024—which William previously called 'brutal' and the most difficult year of his life as he saw both his wife Kate Middleton and his father King Charles diagnosed with cancer—the future king said after being asked what was in his 'toolkit' to help with stress and mental health issues, 'My toolbox is quite big.' 'If you imagine all of the tools you have in a farm, have a toolbox that is a mental toolbox and in there you have to have certain tools to deal with any problems that come along in life,' he added. 'If you don't have that tool, find someone who can provide you with that tool. Don't be afraid to ask for a bit of help. For me, breaking work/life balance, breaking the cycle where you can. I know in the farming world you live, sleep, breathe, everything, but try and find a way to come away from it, otherwise you'll find yourself talking about the same thing that bothers you on a day-to-day basis. And it goes round in circles. Have time out, go do things that are fun, go and do something completely different and give the mind a chance to rest.' Mental health has long been a cornerstone of William and Kate's royal work, and William said Wednesday that eliminating the 'taboo' around mental health in the farming community is a 'work in progress,' adding 'we can do more' when it comes to supporting farmers and their mental health. Of his work in the mental health space, William said, 'I never realized what I'd stumbled into when I scratched the surface. The issue of mental health is fragile and not spoken about enough.' Cooper said of William's efforts of helping farmers and their mental health, 'The more people that shout about it the better. It doesn't matter who you are, but it's great to have a royal standing with us and pushing this.' Though there were certainly serious—and important—conversations about mental health occuring at the visit, there were much more lighthearted moments, too, like when Cooper greeted William (who even jokes himself about his balding) with the classic line, 'Great hair.' To this, William playfully asked Cooper if he was wearing a clean shirt and, looking at his boots, William jokingly said, 'Are they the cleanest ones you've got?' Also on the visit, William reunited with Vick Hope, who was there during William's notorious interview in 2023 when he revealed that his favorite emoji was, um, the aubergine. 'You mentioned the aubergine emoji was your favorite,' Hope said on March 26, reminding William of his answer a year and half ago. In response, William laughed and said, 'It felt like the right environment to do it,' cheekily adding, 'Not sure maybe today.' Read the original article on InStyle
