Daisy Ridley Turns Heads at SXSW in Goth Fishnet Dress

Daisy Ridley, star of three Star Wars films, and the recent action-flick Cleaner, just made a huge splash at SXSW 2025. During the combination film festival and convention, Ridley rocked a striking black fit consisting of a fishnet dress accented with solid black and a plunging neckline. The severe, almost Goth-like look was perfect for the project that Ridley was promoting: A new zombie film called We Bury the Dead. "Couldn't have been happier to be back at SXSW, where we premiered We Bury The Dead! Such a thrill to share the movie!" Ridley wrote on her Instagram. During SXSW, Ridley also revealed that the turnaround time between Cleaner and We Bury the Dead was very tight. "I had literally just filmed Cleaner," Ridley told Deadline Hollywood before the SXSW debut of We Bury the Dead. "I finished Cleaner some few weeks before we finished this. Which I've never done before. It was a quick turnaround."Ridley also noted that she was "surprised" by just how many zombies were present on the film set. In the new film, Ridley plays a woman named Ava, who is searching for her missing husband, while hoping he has not become a zombie. Unlike some zombie films of late, We Bury the Dead is very much a survivalist drama. Ridley has described the film as an "exploration of grief."

Peachtree Group-Financed Films We Bury The Dead and The Surfer Premiere at SXSW 2025, Marking Further Expansion in Entertainment Financing

ATLANTA, March 17, 2025--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Peachtree Group (Peachtree), a leading private equity firm, successfully showcased two of its financed films, We Bury the Dead and The Surfer, at the 2025 SXSW Film & TV Festival, further solidifying its presence in the entertainment financing sector. SXSW, which took place March 7-15 in Austin, Texas, is one of the industry's most influential festivals, bringing together filmmakers, industry leaders and media professionals. The selection of Peachtree-backed films at SXSW 2025 underscores the firm's expanding role in providing senior-secured financing for compelling storytelling. We Bury the Dead made its World Premiere in the Narrative Spotlight section, telling the story of a woman searching for her missing husband in the aftermath of a military experiment gone wrong—only to make a chilling discovery when the dead begin showing signs of life. Starring Daisy Ridley, who 'stuns in this beautifully horrific road trip,' and backed by reviews praising its aesthetics—such as, "The film's visuals highlight this delicate balance, showing how grief can be both painful and profoundly beautiful"—it is sure to be an enormous success. The Surfer, which had its North American premiere in the Festival Favorite category, follows a man who returns to his childhood beach with his son, only to find himself locked in a tense conflict with a powerful group of locals that pushes him to his breaking point. Peachtree's involvement in SXSW 2025 follows The Surfer's world premiere at prestigious Cannes Film Festival, which scored a six-minute standing ovation, and cemented the firm's reputation as a prominent lender in TV and film productions. "Our increasing activity in film and television financing is a natural extension of our lending capabilities," said Greg Friedman, managing principal and CEO of Peachtree. "The entertainment industry presents unique investment opportunities, and our goal is to provide financing solutions that align with the creative vision of filmmakers while delivering strong returns for our stakeholders." Peachtree targets productions ranging from $5 million to $50 million, a segment experiencing growing demand for flexible capital solutions. "By combining capital investment with deep industry expertise, we deliver tailored financial solutions that align with the evolving demands of today's entertainment market," said Joshua Harris, managing partner of Peachtree. Documentary on Stan Lee Alleges Exploitation of the Marvel Comics Legend in Final Years of His Life

A new documentary on Marvel Comics co-creator Stan Lee claims that Lee was mistreated and exploited by some of those in his inner circle during the last few years of his life. Jon Bolerjack, a comic book artist and a former assistant to Lee during the last four years of Lee's life, filmed the documentary and on Tuesday launched a Kickstarter campaign looking for funding to complete the film, titled 'Stan Lee: The Final Chapter.' In a trailer for the movie, Bolerjack says Lee spent 'his final years enduring mistreatment, manipulation, and betrayal at the hands of a few very bad actors.' More from IndieWire 'Black Bag' Review: Steven Soderbergh's Crackling Thriller Stars Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett as Married Spies with Nuclear Trust Issues 'We Bury the Dead' Review: Daisy Ridley Goes Zombie-Hunting Bolerjack says the film includes interviews with other witnesses close to Lee and with comic book creators like Rob Liefeld and Roy Thomas. It also concludes with a string of interviews with other comic book artists who have seen an early cut of the footage discussing what they say are some of the shocking details. 'Seeing Stan in that situation, being taken advantage of, was really hard to watch,' artist Tyler Kirkham says in the trailer. 'I had no idea how badly he had been exploited, and that's a message people need to hear,' comic book writer Mark Waid added. Lee, who passed away in 2018 at age 95, was the subject of an investigation from THR shortly before his death in which it was claimed that he was the victim of elder abuse and had other individuals improperly influencing his family members and worked to gain control of his assets and money. Lee's estate in 2023 lost an elder abuse lawsuit on a technicality against a former attorney, but Bolerjack's documentary claims to explore other aspects of Lee's exploitation. The trailer for the documentary does not name any individuals specifically, but it has several sequences involving Max Anderson, Lee's former road manager for many of his convention appearances. Anderson was named in THR's 2018 investigation, though he has denied wrongdoing. Bolerjack is seeking $300,000 through Kickstarter in order to complete 'Stan Lee: The Final Chapter.' The money will go toward finishing post-production, paying some of the volunteer crew, and to various legal fees.
