Mike Epps passes baton to new-era comics in star-studded comedy tour
Comedy icon Mike Epps is embracing the social media generation by way of the "We Them Ones" stand-up tour, which will wrap its second year later this month. The big picture: Studies show that consumers prefer watching short and long form videos on their smartphone for entertainment over traditional forms of media. Instagram and TikTok have accelerated the careers of funny content creators like Druski, Sabrina Brier, Matt Rife, B. Simone and Desi Banks. What they're saying:"In this business, there's not a lot of OG comedians that's very accepting of our journey and how we've gotten into some of these rooms and positions," comic Dyon Brooks (aka Mojo Brookzz) tells Axios. "Mike understands that this is the new wave and comedy has evolved." State of play: Brooks, an internet sensation from Chicago, and other talent on the tour who create viral comedy skits like Kountry Wayne and Haha Davis have leveraged social media to grow a fanbase. There are also household names on the marquee like Epps, Karlous Miller, Lil Duval, Corey Holcomb and Tony Roberts. "You got so many different comics coming from different eras. The range of things that we talk about go from here to there. It's a comedy show where you're going to find the flavor that you like," Brooks said. Here are the remaining dates, cities and venues: May 10: Tampa — Amalie Arena May 11: Orlando — Addition Financial Arena May 17: Atlanta — State Farm Arena May 23: Las Vegas — Dolby Live
