Celebrate Wear A Hat Day on March 28, and support brain tumor research

Wear A Hat Day, observed annually on March 28, is designed to raise awareness and funds for brain tumor research. Brain tumors remain a critical health issue, with the National Brain Tumor Society estimating that almost 19,000 Americans will die from a malignant brain tumor in 2023. And, while survival rates for other cancers have improved in recent years, brain cancer survival rates have not seen a similar positive trend. All the more reason to don a hat for this holiday. The history behind Wear A Hat Day This unique holiday was first honored in 2009, thanks to the Brain Tumour Research charity in the UK. The holiday encourages people to step out and about in their favorite hats, in hopes of sparking conversation – and eliciting support. Despite so many medical advancements, effective treatments for brain cancers are limited. Wear A Hat Day serves as a fun yet meaningful way to draw attention to the issue. How you can participate in Wear a Hat Day Joining the observance of Wear A Hat Day this year – and every year – is simple, and enjoyable. Here are some ways we'll be celebrating. Wear your favorite hat. We love it when the holiday tells us exactly how to celebrate! Dig out your oldest baseball hat, the one with the perfectly bent brim, and wear it proudly. Wear your most unusual hat. Here's a way to use your headwear to start a conversation about brain cancer – if you've got a derby, a tophat, or a bowler… today's the day to break it out. Organize a fundraising event. Why celebrate alone? Schools, offices, and community spaces can host hat-themed events – think parades, competitions, maybe a fashion show? Donate the proceeds to a brain tumor research organization. Spread the word. Take to your favorite social media platform to share photos of your hat (or hats!), using hashtags like #WearAHatDay to amplify the message and encourage others to join the cause. Mark your calendar. If you're a fan of this holiday, and brain tumor research is something you want to support again, you have two additional dates to mark on your calendar. In June, we'll have Wear A Hat Day With Flowers, and December also boasts Wear a Christmas Hat Day, to spread holiday cheer and awareness of this terrible disease. Participating in Wear A Hat Day on March 28 is a meaningful way to contribute to the fight against brain tumors, just by putting on a hat. You can help raise awareness, and maybe some funds… bringing us closer to finding a cure for this devastating disease.
