Weather Authority Alert: 1 more brown-out day before beautiful Easter

I had just pulled up for our noon service at church when my phone alarm triggered. Another Dust Storm Warning!! Again, the Interstate between Las Cruces and Lordsburg is closed due to dangerous conditions. El Paso is experiencing its second brown-out from dust for the second time this week, and we are likely to have another brown-out from dust on Saturday. The change? Saturday will feel much colder as a cold front blows through. Here's your exclusive 9-Hour Forecast: TONIGHT: KTSM has issued a Weather Authority Alert due to powerful winds and blowing dust today and Saturday. A Wind Advisory is posted until 8 PM. A Dust Storm Warning is posted until 6:30 PM but may be extended. A Dust Storm Warning is the highest level of warning for dust with visibility in some place under 1/4 mile. Drive carefully. The SW winds will be strongest during the evening hours, will cause a brown-out of dust, and will gust near 65 mph. The low will be 55, and the winds will die down a bit during the overnight hours. FORECAST: Saturday will be partly to mostly cloudy with much colder gusts. The SW winds will shift NW as a cold front comes through. Winds will gust near 55 mph, so yes, we will see blowing dust and a near brown-out by afternoon. Add in a chance of a few drops of rain for a real mess. Saturday's high: 68. By Saturday evening, the winds will start to die down, and the dust will settle. After a horrible stretch of windy, dusty days, we can look forward to Easter Sunday. It will be gorgeous with sunshine, light winds, and a high of 77. Monday will be sunny and breezy with a high of 85. The SW winds will range from 5-20 mph. Tuesday will be sunny with moderate winds and a high of 87. The west winds will gust to 30 mph, but we should be dust free. Wednesday will be sunny and 86 with warm, moderate winds (no dust). Weather Authority Alert: Blowing dust into morning hours

I sometimes joke about how, during very windy days, El Paso looks like Mars. Weather Watcher Dominica Taylor sent in this picture from Cornudas, TX. Are we sure this was not taken by the Martian Lander? (Okay, I guess the plants give it away!) We remain under a High Wind Warning until 9 PM and a Dust Storm Warning until 7:15 PM, which may be extended. The strongest gusts have been 59 mph at El Paso's airport, 61 mph in Las Cruces, and a 78 mph in Ruidoso. Thankfully, Wednesday will be much better. Here's your exclusive 9-Hour Forecast: TONIGHT: KTSM has issued a Weather Authority Alert due to powerful winds and dangerous levels of blowing dust through Tuesday night. A High Wind Warning is posted until 9 PM. A Dust Storm Warning is posted until 5 PM but may be extended. West winds will gust near 60 mph causing blowing dust well into the night. Slowly, the winds will turn NW as cooler air flows into the Borderland. Winds will begin to taper off slowly past midnight. The low will be 40. FORECAST: Wednesday will be sunny with much lighter winds and no dust. The NW winds will range from 5-25 mph, and the high will be a cooler 64. Thursday will be sunny and warmer with a high of 76. The south breeze will range from 5-15 mph. Friday will be sunny and breezy with a high of 80. Saturday will be moderately windy with a slight haze and a high of 83. The SW-west winds will pick up and gust near 40 mph with the strongest gusts on the east slopes. Sunday will be partly cloudy with lighter winds and a high of 80. Monday will be sunny and very warm with a high of 84. Tuesday will be partly cloudy with a high of 86. Wednesday will be partly to mostly cloudy with isolated area showers and even a few isolated t-storms. Wednesday's high: 85. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Weather Authority Alert: Dust storm warning as the winds turn chilly

The morning started out so beautiful today, and then (as expected) all heck broke loose. Powerful winds lifted up the dust and reduced visibility. A Dust Storm Warning is in effect until 6:45 PM. A Wind Advisory and a Dust Advisory are posted until 7 PM. The W-SW winds will gust near 60 mph, and those winds will turn quite chilly overnight. Weather Authority Alert: Strong winds, dust, drops, cold front ahead next three days

Oh, boy, did we need a break from those winds today! What a gorgeous Wednesday with a high of 71 and light winds. The highest wind speed today was 13 mph. The best part… no dust. During this windy season, it's important to remember to prep your lawn for Spring. I like to use my electric dethatcher to remove all the dead undergrowth from my Bermuda grass. Use a high nitrogen, NON-weed-n-feed fertilizer, and then water. It looks terrible for a while, but it will turn green and thicken beautifully. Speaking of terrible, here's your 9 Hour Forecast for Thursday: TONIGHT: The skies will be partly cloudy overnight, and the winds will be light out of the SE at 5-10 mph. The low will be a mild 47. FORECAST: KTSM has issued a Weather Authority Alert due to the strong winds and blowing dust that will affect the Borderland Thursday through Saturday. Thursday will start out pleasantly but end up with strong winds and dust. A Wind Advisory and a Dust Advisory are posted from 11 AM to 7 PM. The SW winds will gust near 60 mph, and the high will be 78. Friday will be partly cloudy with strong winds and blowing dust. The west winds will gust near 60 mph. Friday's high: 67. Saturday will be partly to mostly cloudy with a few drops as a cold front blows through. The NW winds will gust near 55 mph, which will cause blowing dust. The high will drop to 59, and the winds will slowly diminish Saturday evening. Sunday will be a beautiful day with a high of 66. The winds will be light and variable. Monday will be sunny and warmer with a high of 76. Tuesday will be partly cloudy with gusty winds and a dusty haze. Tuesday's high: 79. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
