Green Day brings Charli XCX Coachella ‘feud' to an end

Green Day has responded to Charli XCX 's controversial 'Miss Should Be Headliner' sash with its own playful fashion statements. The East Bay punk band performed at Southern California's Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival for the first time, headlining the two-weekend event on April 12 and Saturday, April 19. 'Apple' singer Charli XCX took the stage shortly before the group, and was accused of disrespecting the beloved rock band with her post-show outfit. Despite the internet chatter, however, there seems to be no bad blood between the two acts. Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong borrowed a fan's neon green 'brat' cap during Green Day's Weekend 2 performance, clearing the air and showing love for the British pop singer's hit album of the same name. Having his own brat moment, the band's drummer, Tré Cool, posed for a post-show photo wearing a makeshift sash with the words 'Actual Headliner,' playfully nodding to Charli XCX's bold suggestion that she deserved the top time slot. She reshared the photo on X with the caption 'obsessed.' Both artists were regarded by many to have given some of the best performances of the festival, though they were starkly different in style. True to her party girl aesthetic, Charli XCX's set was packed with strobe lights, hair flips and tracks from her 2024 hit album ' Brat.' She was joined onstage by collaborators such as Addison Rae, Lorde and Troye Sivan. Green Day's performance highlighted the band's discography, from its 1991 sophomore album, 'Kerplunk,' to its latest release, 2024's ' Saviors.' Though the first weekend's performance ended in a minor pyrotechnic mishap, Weekend 2 saw rapper Flavor Flav take the stage as the band's Punk Bunny mascot to help hype up the crowd.
