Viral Newtown dog Stanley fundraiser for spinal surgery care
The owner of a dachshund from Newtown that found worldwide fame after posing with a seal is raising funds towards spinal surgery after care costing thousands of pounds.
Seven-year-old Stanley spent 12 days in hospital after vets were worried that he could be paralysed after they found his disk was stuck to his spinal cord.
His owner Wendy Clark-Newby, 76, says she has spent most of her savings on Stanley's recovery which has led to her daughter Melanie setting set up a GoFundMe page in a bid to raise up to £5,000.
'His aftercare is very expensive and will continue for months,' she said.
'We have already exceeded his £6,000 insurance claim and desperately need your help in paying for the rest of his ongoing care, physiotherapy and hydrotherapy.'
Stanley went viral during the coronavirus pandemic after he posed with a seal at The Cornish Seal Sanctuary and became an internet sensation from New York to Japan.
'He's very outward going,' Wendy said. 'He's absolutely a right poser; a one of a kind. He brings a smile to everybody's faces.
'Everybody's been so kind since this has been happened.
