‘Wish I could have done better': Devdutta Majhi, female topper in JEE Advanced with AIR 16
Devdutta Majhi from the IIT Kharagpur zone has emerged as the top female topper in the JEE Advanced, bagging an All India Rank of 16, scoring 312 marks in the Common Rank List. Hailing from Katwa, her success comes as no surprise: she has consistently excelled at academic milestones. In 2023, she was the West Bengal Madhyamik topper, followed by a perfect 100 percentile and AIR 1 in JEE Main 2025 (Session 2). 'For the last two years, I have been studying for this day. I wish I could have done a bit better,' she said. A student of Katwa Durgadasi Chaudhurani Girls' High School, Devdutta studied for 10-12 hours daily. Her dream is to join IISc Bangalore to pursue a BTech in Computing, followed by research in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence. Over 1.8 lakh candidates appeared for the JEE Advanced this year. Her mother, Shelly Dan, a physics teacher, expressed pride and surprise. 'I am very happy for her. I had expected a good rank, but not this. She is the female topper. We were waiting for this day. She studied under my guidance. She never took tuitions, just self-study and online guidance. Many students go to Kota or Delhi, but she didn't,' Dan said. Majhi, who enjoys playing chess, caring for stray animals, and playing the violin, credited her preparation strategy to a disciplined study plan. 'I focused on theory in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics first, then practiced problem-solving. I had a lot of books for that,' she said. She also occasionally took online guidance from teachers based in Delhi and Kolkata. For aspirants, she advised that one needs hard work, discipline, and dedication.

JEE Main topper bags 6th spot in HS exam
Kolkata: The All India JEE Main topper , Devdutta Majhi from Katwa, secured the sixth position in the Higher Secondary exams . She was among the 10 candidates across the country who obtained perfect scores in the April session (session 2) and was the only female candidate among them. A student of Katwa Durgadasi Chaudhurani Girls' High School, Devdutta had previously topped the West Bengal Madhyamik exam in 2023. The focused and determined girl said, "I am extremely happy after seeing my name in the merit list. I focused mainly on preparing for JEE Mains, and alternatively, I prepared for the HS, too." With aspirations to join IISc Bangalore and contribute to scientific research, she is now preparing for JEE Advanced and WBJEE, continuing her inspiring academic journey. Her mother, Shelly Dan, who is a physics teacher at the same school, said, "We are very happy that she has been consistently doing well. Now she is preparing for her JEE Advanced. I am proud of her." The teacher in charge of her school, Snigdha Banerjee, said, "We knew she would be in the merit list, and we are very happy to see her name in the list. She worked hard preparing for competitive exams as well as for HS. Moreover, she attended classes regularly."

The (WBBSE) has declared the Madhyamik Pariksha (Secondary Examination) 2025 results on Friday, recording an overall pass percentage of 86.56 per cent. Of the 9,69,425 who appeared, 8,14,440 students were declared successful. While this marks a modest increase from the 86.31 per cent pass rate recorded in 2024, detailed statistics show that performance gaps across gender and districts continue to persist. Female students lag behind even with higher participation numbers A record participation of 5,55,950 girls marked West Bengal Madhaymik exams this year, however, female candidates continue to lag behind their male counterparts in terms of performance. The pass percentage for male students stood at 89.19 per cent, while that for female students was notably lower at 84.39 per cent, a gap of nearly five percentage points. This persistent disparity remains a point of concern, particularly considering the increasing enrollment of girls in the examination system.. West Bengal Madhyamik result 2025: Regional performance District-level data reflects significant variation in performance across West Bengal. East Midnapore, Kalimpong, and Kolkata emerged as the best-performing districts. East Midnapore recorded the highest male pass percentage at 97.56, while Kalimpong saw female students outperform males with a remarkable pass percentage of 97.43. In contrast, districts such as Jalpaiguri and Murshidabad displayed weaker outcomes. Jalpaiguri reported the lowest overall performance, with male and female pass percentages at 76.79 per cent and 73.67, respectively. Murshidabad also recorded low female success, with only 77.5 per cent passing.
