Sam Kerr shows off her newborn son Jagger in photo with a heartwarming detail
Sam Kerr and her fiancée Kristie Mewis have shared a new image of their son Jagger Mewis-Kerr with the world along with a little detail that shows they are adapting well to motherhood.
Chelsea and Matildas star Kerr shared a sweet image holding their new arrival, revealing not just their baby boy - but also a comforting reminder of home.
Behind the happy couple sat a box of Cadbury Favourites, a quiet but touching sign that amid sleepless nights and nappy changes, they're still finding moments to treat themselves.
The caption revealing the safe arrival of Jagger on Friday simply read, 'Our little man is here, Jagger Mewis-Kerr,' and the post was quickly flooded with love from friends, fans, and teammates.
Matildas goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold wrote, 'The cutest family ever,' while Mary Fowler added, 'So beautiful.'
Katrina Gorry, Courtney Nevin and Caitlin Foord also shared their well wishes.
Kerr and fiancée Kristie Mewis welcomed baby Jagger to the world on Friday to a host of well wishes from fans and teammates
'Congrats you guys. Welcome to the fam Jagger,' Gorry wrote.
The official Matildas account joined in, saying, 'Welcome to the Tillies fam, Jagger! Congratulations to mums Sam and Kristie.'
International clubs like West Ham Women and Chelsea Women, where Mewis and Kerr play respectively, also offered congratulations.
Teammate Aggie Beever-Jones wrote, 'Cutest ever,' while the Barclays Women's Super League added, 'Congratulations!'
The announcement comes after the couple first revealed their pregnancy in November 2024.
They shared a black-and-white collage showing Mewis' baby bump, confirming months of speculation.
Kerr, 31, and Mewis, 34, met in 2019 and went public with their relationship in 2021 before announcing their engagement in November 2023. Their wedding is expected to take place later this year.
The pair had been splitting their time between the UK and Australia as they prepared for parenthood.
In December, they attended Emily van Egmond's wedding, where Mewis - several months pregnant - wore a flowing blue-and-white gown that drew plenty of admiration.
Shortly after the wedding, Kerr received news her grandmother had been hit by a ute in Perth, prompting a quick return to Western Australia with Mewis by her side.
Kerr also recently faced a high-profile legal battle in London as she was found not guilty of racially aggravated harassment of a police officer following an incident in early 2023.
The Matildas striker was accused of calling a policeman 'stupid and white' during an altercation at Twickenham Police Station.
Football Australia later confirmed they would take no further action, allowing her to retain the national team captaincy.
Her parents in Perth said they were 'happy the court case is all done and dusted,' and added that Sam 'felt supported throughout the trial'.
Kerr later thanked Mewis for standing by her during the ordeal, calling her 'my biggest supporter'.
Despite the incident, public support remained strong, although the couple did receive homophobic abuse online after announcing Jagger's birth.
Chelsea manager Sonia Bompastor labelled the comments 'unacceptable,' while team captain Millie Bright called for tougher action from social media platforms.
Mewis, who plays for West Ham United and has represented the US 53 times, also expressed pride in their growing family. The US midfielder has had a globetrotting career, with stints in the NWSL, Germany, and Japan.
Kerr remains sidelined with an ACL injury suffered in January 2024. Chelsea has said she is still 'a few weeks away' from returning, and it's unclear if she'll be ready in time for the Matildas' clash against Argentina on May 30.
