Hong Kong activist Joshua Wong faces fresh charge of foreign collusion
Hong Kong national security police have levelled a fresh charge against jailed activist Joshua Wong Chi-fung, accusing him of conspiring with fugitive ex-lawmaker Nathan Law Kwun-chung to collude with foreign forces five years ago. Police were seen strengthening security around West Kowloon Court on Friday as they awaited the arrival of 28-year-old Wong, who was escorted to court in a prison van. A charge sheet seen by the Post said Wong conspired with Law and others to instigate foreign sanctions, blockades or implement other hostile activities against Hong Kong and mainland China between July 1 and November 23 of 2020. The suspects also plotted to 'seriously disrupt the formulation and implementation of laws or policies' by the central and Hong Kong governments 'which was likely to cause serious consequences', the document said. Hong Kong doctor jailed for sex assault has licence suspended for 9 months
A Hong Kong doctor jailed for sexually assaulting a teenager in a crowded train compartment has had his medical licence suspended for nine months, with an inquiry panel finding that his actions had 'tarnished the reputation' of practitioners in the city. Advertisement Sunny Li Wing-hei was jailed for two weeks in May 2023 after he was found guilty of assaulting an 18-year-old girl in a Central-bound MTR train by rubbing his groin against her buttocks one evening during the Easter holiday in 2022. 'The offence of indecent assault committed by the defendant on X was very serious,' Fok Tai-fai, chairman of the Medical Council's inquiry panel, said on Tuesday. 'What the defendant did had tarnished the reputation of doctors in Hong Kong.' Fok added: 'It is essential in our view to maintain among members of the public a well-founded confidence that any medical doctor whom they consult will be a person of unquestionable integrity, probity and trustworthiness. 'Any person who lacks these essential attributes can hardly be a fit and proper person to practise medicine.' Advertisement Li, then aged 30, was found guilty of indecent assault and sentenced at West Kowloon Court. The court heard that Li had used a vibrator on his genitals and removed his underpants before he attacked the teenager on April 15, 2022.

Former domestic helper jailed for leaving toddler alone in a Hong Kong park
A former domestic helper has been jailed for more than 15 months for child neglect and illegally taking employment in Hong Kong after a toddler placed in her care was found alone in a park last year. Advertisement West Kowloon Court on Thursday sentenced the woman, only identified as Khotijah, 43, who earlier admitted neglecting a two-year-old girl entrusted to her as a babysitter in June 2024. The court heard the girl's 31-year-old mother first approached the Indonesian defendant via a man known as John in May last year and offered to pay her HK$300 per day for looking after the child. The mother, only identified in court by her acronym TCK, said she would ask Khotijah for help from time to time, the last being on June 21, when she paid the former helper HK$1,500 in exchange for taking care of her toddler for five days. But the accused left the girl with John six days later, complaining she was unable to bear the toddler's living expenses with what the mother gave her. Pair who scuffled on Cathay Japan-Hong Kong flight given conditional discharge
A court has granted two Cathay Pacific business-class passengers a conditional discharge after the pair admitted hurling objects at each other during a heated argument as their flight landed in Hong Kong early this year. Advertisement West Kowloon Court on Wednesday released saleswoman Tsui Zi-kew, 32, and grandmother Zhang Xinyan, 60, on a two-year bind-over order over their scuffle on a flight from Sapporo in Japan to Hong Kong on January 6. The defendants will be fined HK$1,500 if they fail to maintain good behaviour and keep the peace during the period and risk heavier punishment for any further offences. Tsui and Zhang, who was travelling with her three-year-old granddaughter, did not know each other before boarding flight CX581. The court heard the child suddenly started crying shortly after the plane touched down at Hong Kong International Airport at 9.40pm. Advertisement Tsui, who was sitting behind Zhang, threw a tantrum after hearing the child crying and tossed two bottles at the 60-year-old housewife, triggering a heated exchange between the two. The flight manager attempted to separate the pair but in vain.
