West Plains police respond to shooting incident at Holiday Inn Express

WEST PLAINS, Mo. — Police officers from the West Plains Police Department (WPPD) responded to a disturbance at Holiday Inn Express on Preacher Roe Blvd. early Saturday morning, June 7, where they discovered a woman had been shot. According to a WPPD news release, officers were dispatched to the hotel at 5:46 a.m. after a caller stated a person was on the premises and refusing to leave. Another person called shortly thereafter and reported a firearm had been discharged, the release says. Upon arrival, WPPD officers spoke with a witness who said they watched the suspect fire several rounds into a vehicle as it fled the parking lot. At 5:58 a.m., a 23-year-old man from Little Rock, Arkansas, was identified as a suspect and placed into custody on a 24-hour hold pending formal charges. Officers determined a woman who was inside the fleeing vehicle had received a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. She was located several hours later in Arkansas. It was also determined the vehicle had multiple occupants, with one being an infant child. The suspect's name is not being released at this time until charges are formally filed, according to West Plains Police Chief Brian Bunch. Those charges will include first-degree assault with intent; armed criminal action; unlawful use of a weapon; and first-degree endangering the welfare of a child. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
