Walmart and Sam's Club launch annual campaign to fight hunger in West Texas

ODESSA, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- Walmart and Sam's Club are once again stepping up in the fight against hunger with the return of their annual Fight Hunger. Spark Change. Campaign. The initiative directly benefits the West Texas Food Bank and its mission to fight food insecurity in the community. Now in its 12th year, the nationwide initiative supports local hunger relief efforts, including in Midland and Odessa, helping families facing food insecurity gain access to nutritious meals. The campaign, which runs from March 1 through March 31, provides multiple ways for customers to contribute, both in stores and online: Donating at checkout in Walmart and Sam's Club stores or rounding up purchases online at and the Walmart app. Purchasing participating products, with suppliers donating the monetary equivalent of at least one meal per item sold at Walmart and five meals per item sold at Sam's Club. Directly donating to the campaign at this website. Since its launch in 2014, the Fight Hunger. Spark Change. campaign has raised over $206 million and helped provide more than 2 billion meals for communities across the U.S. through the Feeding America network of food banks. For many families in West Texas, hunger remains a pressing issue. The West Texas Food Bank (WTFB), which serves 19 counties, is a key beneficiary of the campaign, ensuring that donations go directly toward feeding children, seniors, and families in the region. 'Food insecurity continues to be a challenge in our community, but initiatives like Fight Hunger. Spark Change. Make a real difference,' Libby Stephens, CEO of the West Texas Food Bank said. 'Every donation, no matter how small, helps provide meals for those who need them most. We are grateful for Walmart and Sam's Club's commitment to supporting local hunger relief.' Walmart and Sam's Club have partnered with Feeding America for over 20 years to address food insecurity across the country. The involvement of 24 major suppliers, including General Mills, Kraft Heinz, Coca-Cola, and Pepsi, ensures that every participating purchase contributes to the cause. 'Walmart and Sam's Club are committed to helping people live better, and that starts with ensuring access to food,' said Julie Gehrki, President of the Walmart Foundation and Senior Vice President of Philanthropy at Walmart. 'This campaign allows customers to take simple actions that create meaningful change for their communities.' Residents in Midland and Odessa can participate in the campaign by shopping at local Walmart and Sam's Club locations, choosing items marked as participating products, or making direct donations to Feeding America and the West Texas Food Bank. For every $5 donated, the West Texas Food Bank can provide 10 nutritious meals to those in need. In 2024 alone, the food bank distributed over 13 million pounds of food across West Texas.
