New Trader Joe's to open in Northern part of California, here's when
( — While many retailers and grocery stores have closed down in recent months, Trader Joe's is expanding its footprint by opening a new location in the Northern part of California. Trader Joe's is a national 'neighborhood store' known for carrying unique Trader Joe's branded groceries rather than big brand items, according to its website. The grocery store opened in 1967 and has more than 600 locations throughout the U.S. What is a Waymo car? On June 13, Trader Joe's will open a new store in Tracy. It is the first Trader Joe's to open in the city and will be located at 2530 Naglee Road, near the West Valley Mall. The new 9,800 square foot building will be celebrated with a ribbon cutting at 7:55 a.m. on opening day, according to a press release. Trader Joe's plans to open at 8 a.m. and close at 9 p.m. every day. For the grand opening, Store Captain Jay Jones and Trader Joe's crew members are expected to be in attendance to welcome customers. 'As a neighborhood grocery store, Trader Joe's prides itself on hiring from our local community,' the company said in a statement. 'The store hired sixty new crew members and transferred in others from neighboring Trader Joe's stores.' Trader Joe's coming soon to Tracy Additionally, Trader Joe's reported that the new Tracy store will donate all quality unsold products to a range of non-profit, community-based organizations, seven days a week. TRACY, Calif. - The uber-popular Trader Joe's grocery chain is expanding in California with five new stores on the "coming soon" list. Among the new locations, a store is set to open in the Central Valley city of Tracy, which will be getting its first Trader Joe's. The new store is being built at 2530 Naglee Road, in front of the West Valley Mall. SEE ALSO:Canada's biggest Asian supermarket opening second Bay Area location Back in March, shortly after the plans were announced, the city issued a news release expressing its excitement. "We are thrilled to officially welcome Trader Joe's to the City of Tracy! Often the talk of the town, this new addition represents not only a new shopping option for our residents, but also an exciting milestone for our community's continued growth and development," Tracy Mayor Dan Arriola said. The other four new California locations will be in Southern California: Northridge, Sherman Oaks, Tarzana, and Yucaipa, according to the Trader Joe's website. Local perspective At this point, no new stores have been slated to open in the Bay Area, which already has more than 50 locations. San Francisco has the greatest number of stores among Bay Area cities with seven locations. The grocery chain said it continually searches for opportunities to serve new communities. "We are actively looking at hundreds of neighborhoods across the country as we hope to open more new neighborhood stores each year," Trader Joe's Public Relations Manager Nakia Rohde told KTVU in an email. Trader Joe's attracts a cult-like following stemming from many of its private-label products, its cuisine inspired from around the world, and its viral items like its limited-edition mini tote bags. Many families turn to the store for its wide variety, fun seasonal products, and affordable prices. The city of Tracy is celebrating the addition of the store as a win for both its economy and its residents. "The grocer will be bringing affordable, organic, healthy food options and long-term economic benefits such as new jobs and increases in consumer spending contributing to the local tax base," city officials said. What we don't know There's no word on the exact opening date of the new store in Tracy. The company told KTVU it has not yet announced a date but would post that information on its website here when it becomes available.
