Last city council meeting prior to summer break sees progress in Westerra development plans
Before taking a month-long break for summer, Regina's city council was sure to greenlight the next step forward for its planned expansion in Westerra.
A revised plan on the area's expansion was submitted to council – with the aim of adding more commercial spaces to accommodate the rapid housing increases in the area.
The council continued with its approval of the plan, with every member noting the progress that they see in the area.
'We looked at a little bit of an amendment there just to encompass the neighborhood in the best way that the developer kind of sees it going,' Mayor Chad Bachynski told reporters Wednesday.
Bachynski also commented about the ongoing construction on Dewdney Avenue, as businesses in the area are becoming frustrated with the delays.
'It's a lot of work happening on 11th Avenue, it's frustrating. It's frustrating for everybody to work through a construction zone like that,' he said.
'But I've said before that we have infrastructure that's as old as 1913 there. That does need to be replaced, it does need to get done. I firmly believe that when it's all said and done, it's going to be a beautiful space.'
The council also covered topics such as water lift stations being installed in the Westerra area, which the council fully accepted as well.
