WESTLAKE, Ohio (WJW) — Imagine a homeowner's surprise when they found what they believed to be World War II-era ammunition in their recently purchased home.

According to Westlake Police, the city's fire department received an email on May 5 from a concerned citizen who said they found an 'old WW2 grenade and 2 anti-aircraft shells' in the basement of a home they recently bought.
The resident was told not to touch the items while the fire department notified the Westlake Police Department and Westshore Bomb Unit about the discovery.
The bomb squad was then sent to the resident's home where the items were X-rayed and examined. They were identified as two U.S. WWII MK2 HE projectiles and a Japanese hand grenade, police said.
